"Newbie Questions "

OK, I just got the game (I know, it's wicked old but it sounded like fun) and I can't get into the town hall or out the gate I need to (according to the book). I started to read all the bug posts here but there are so many and they are so old I'm wondering if this will even work with XP. Are there game updates somewhere that I should try or did I spend $7.99 for nothing?

W&W only works with W95 and W98 and perhaps with ME. It does not work with NT4, W2K and XP. And I don't know anything about a patch or a update that does change this.

hoggy Virtual PC can run it, though it will demand much resources, RAM, and processor usage. it'll work, nonetheless

OK I checked out the Virtual PC site and not being the computer guru that I'd like to be I have to admit I'm not sure what this does. Is it pretty much just installing a second OS on my machine so when I want to play W&W I have to open in 95? I did read the FAQ but it's clear it wasn't created with gamers in mind

it is kind of like that, but more along the lines of an application, than an OS. It is really running a virtual session, that has the charactereistics of the OS it emulates.

Given how slow W&W was, running it under a virtual session may be less than desirable.

A year ago I tried it with W2K, VMware and as second OS Win98 SE. No good combination. The hole thing crashed while installing W&W.

OK then, let me ask this... how much work is the game worth? Should I just put it up on eBay or maybe spend a few hours trying to make it go on my own? I've heard lots of good things about it and from what I've seen so far it looks like fun but if I have to spend the first the nights just making it run and then find it still full of bugs I don't want to bother.

As you say, it looks very nice ( from what I have seen until now ), but there seems to be a lot of bugs. I could not open one of the chests for example. But I will give it a second chance. I've got an older second PC. And I will install W98 SE and then W&W, and then ... perhaps...

Just a little update if anyone cares...Thanks to the above posts I have gotten W&W to run on XP with relatively little hassle. Thanks all

... that is why we are here I have thought about resurrecting this game and starting up again myself. Let us know how you like it.

I have played the game through about 5 times now...because I am trying out all the proffessions. But if you need any assistance with anything...I will give some help.

I consider myself the Queen of W & W...just because everyone else couldn't stand the bugs. I really haven't had too many problems with the bugs myself. I find that most games have bugs.

The game can be played on XP but I can't remember how to get it running. On my laptop with XP home it works fine but I just can't get the game going on my normal PC.
