Has anyone tried this combo yet? I was wondering how the old game ran with Windows 7 64 bit OS.

Some people on the VN Board say they ran it successfully with the properties of the Wizardry 8 startup icon's compatibility settings set to Windows XP and/or Windows 98 compatibility. Personally I'd probably put a check mark in front of "Disable Visual Themes" as well since that got me to run other older software successfully.

Seems you still need a half decent video card if you want to avoid the game from being jerky.

Also, as usual if your computer is doing tons of stuff at the same time it may impact the smoothness of the game like if it is trying to scan for viruses, scan for spyware as well as doing the automatic updates of Windows/Adobe/Java/QuickTime/RealPlayer/Skype/MSN Messenger/printer and any other programs that do automatic update checks in the background that you have and do that all at the same time... personally I turn off all of these stupid freaking updates, I'll update when I am ready, not when those gimmicks feel like doing it and screwing up my gaming experience.

P.S. Nobody said anything about the 64-bit version of Win 7 yet though...

I'm actually running Wiz 8 under 64-bit Windows 7. I don't use the compatibility setting, but I need the inofficial Open-GL Patch (http://download.cnet.com/Wizardry-8-Unofficial-OpenGL-patch/3000-7539_4-10291809.html) and run the Game with the Open-GL setting instead of DirectX 7.

It runs smooth then, with a minor problem: If I use Alt+Tab to go to annother programm, and switch back, the Game no longer accepts keyboard input. You can still play with the mouse only, of course.

I found that if you use the Window$ key (if you have one) between the Alt and Ctrl and navigate from there you can get back to the game with keyboard commands intact.
