Will you be making a conference for Wiz8 when it comes out to separate the general discussion from the spoilers and bugs like you did for W&W?

Don't know what made me think to ask this now. Just curious.

I had been mulling it over. The problem is, people don't read People come in via one link, and they stay there (i.e. all the off topic posts in the Wiz 8 forum).

I would like to do something to make sure that people aren't browsing through the forum and inadvertantly run into spoilers ... but again, unless people conform to a system (either some visual identification in the post, prior to any spoilers or hints - or a separate forum) there is little chance of success.

I am open to suggestions. I had thought of just archiving all the Wiz 8 posts, once it comes out, so we could kind of start fresh.

The other concern I have is once it comes out, I expect more traffic - from other than our usual crowd. I don't think the volume will be a problem, but perhaps quality There are ways to keep unwanted posts/posters out, but they put more restrictions on the rest of us (like only allowing registered users to post, making forums moderated - which I won't do - don't have time for that).

What if some of the long-term registered users here whom you have sort of gotten to know and respect because of the consistent quality, etc. of their posts were to volunteer to help be moderators?

I'm not necessarily saying I would, but maybe you should throw it out there and see who responds?

Just a thought...

Surely you jest! Actually I had thought of that, but it was avoiding the need for hall monitors that I was hoping for.

Sorry about that - I was off on my bicycle built for two

PS 50 brownie points to the person who guesses my other name on these forums - excluding the Prof. with his wonderful IP logs, of course.

Well done indeedy - such admirable detective skills will stand you in good stead when Wiz8 is released, no doubt

PS v. honoured to be considered a likely imposter for CPoW!

I'm curios of the this reflex of keeping "unwanted" elements out. I obviously haven't any experience in managing forums like this as you have but is it actually a lot of "bashing"/"bad behaviour"/etc on this board? I see sometimes removed items but don't get the impression that it is too much. Could be wrong of course but I'm regulary here since this board started (as a lurker...) so I've probably read about 90% of the items ever posted here.
Anyway, my point is that it would feel sort of rude to start the new "after release-board" secluded (right word?) directly. Why not keep it open initally. In case of too much rubbish i.e. there are "problem-makers", then make a "for members only" board as well. This would save the trouble of manage only one board i.e. keep one board for everyone and have the "exclusive club" on its own. This of course provided a such a "security function" is available.

I have had to do very little deleting of posts - probably around 10 or so in the close to 2 years we have been here and banned maybe as many people.

There is functionality to make "members only" boards, where only they can post as well as "private" boards, that only members can access.

I share your sentiments, that it would be rude to switch to either of these - with no cause. And I could see no reason to keep separate boards, one for the 'behaved' and one for the rest

Thanks, it sounds like you thougth about already and keep it open as it is today. I too like the idea to "start fresh" once we have the long wanted adventure as some other also do.
Another Q: How much time, say a day, do you have to spend on maintaining this forum? I'm not talking about your own reading/posting, only the (probably) boring parts?
Second Q: Where is the physical server for this forum?

Bye the way, was just over and read some on the other board and I must say that the other board has seriously degenerated. If such stupid threads as this one The Last reply will get a Beta of Wiz 8 pops up here then I would be the first to vote for "Privacy..."

As a regular at said forum I don't see any harm in such threads, as long as is there is also place for more serious discussions. Also I think threads like these are largely due to the long wait for Wiz 8. I think that as soon as the game finally comes out, interest in this kind of nonsence will diminish as most people will be too busy playing the game.

"Starting Fresh"

I like the idea of archiving the old and just starting off fresh. Separate the speculation/wondering from the did it/wondering.

As for sorting out the threads ... impossible. No one thinks of the game in the same way or describes it consistantly.

I agree too. Definately archive the old and start fresh.
