I am trying to reload Wiz 8. Everything is fine until I get to Disk 3. After loading a while, I get:

An error has occuredduring the movedata process: -112
Component:
Filegroup:
File: Data3.cab

LOL This is my second set of disks. Is it time to start looking for a third?

Refer to point 1.05 on the Sir-Tech Wiz8 Common Issues page. If that don't work, try these instructions for a manual install:

Warning: You will need about 3.5Gb of free disk space!

1) Make a folder under C:\WINDOWS\TEMP, and call it "WIZ8TEMP".

2a) Copy every files from CDs 1, 2 and 3 to this temporary folder. Note: Windows will probably give a prompt about copying files to a folder that already exists for CDs 2 and 3, just click on the "Yes to All" button.

2b) Check each file size in the temporary folder is EXACTLY the same as on the CD (this as been the cause of many problems, the installer would sometimes stop copying ~1-4Kb short, possibly caused by ppl pressing the CD-ROM eject button before the ROM drive had completely "spun-down").

3) Once done all three CDs, select all the files in the temporary folder, then right-click and select Properties. Ensure the "Read-Only" attribute is not selected (ie, no tick, it will probably show as a greyed out tick, left-click until it shows no tick), and ensure to apply to all sub-directories / files etc.

4) Run the "AUTORUN.EXE" file, and perform an install as per normal.

5) Once completed, you can delete the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\WIZ8TEMP folder.

6) Apply the 12_23 patch (if needed), remembering to ensure the "Use Folder Names" option is selected (ie, is ticked).

...and that should do it!!!

I should have more time tomorrow to check in on how you went.

Nomad, you are quoting directly off the link which I have already mentioned above, no need to requote.

The Sir-Tech tech support forum seems to be dead already, I get a 404 error when clicking to enter it.

Yes it has . I hope it gets back up soon. I just got the demo, it won't start and those people at the official site won't help. Well, I haven't asked them through e-mail yet but that's a last resort. Can somebody help me? I've got Windows XP, but I've set the game to play in compatibility mode for 95. (terrible name, I know, but it's my nwn user)

I think Sirtech has been defunct for a while now and would not expect a response for tech support. I know it works for others on Win XP, so either your hardware doesn't support the game or the 95 settings is hosing things up.

I am using XP with a 2600 AMD processor, an Nvidia 6600GT vid card, and 2 MB of memory. I have never had a problem just running it, I do not worry about using any compatability mode. And, Wiz 8 came out after Windoze 95 was not supported. If you are going to try a compatability mode, use Windoze 98.

While we are talking about emulators, has anyone had to use an emulator for SB boards? I don't get all of the sounds now with XP.
