"Wizardry on Steam"

Posted by Marc on Dec-29-13 at 07:19 PM
My daughter just showed me that I can buy Wizardry 6, 7, and 8 on my (newly formed) Steam account for $2 and some odds cents.
(Holiday special it seems)

These are supposedly hassle free and ready to run. I started 6 without any issues and will give CODS or Gold (I think there is an option) a try in a little bit.

Oh yeah. HI EVERYONE!!

Sweetness, in addition to some SEGA classics I can now enjoy some Wizardry 6-8 through steam. Does it launch anything through dosbox or were they reprogrammed to play on new windows versions without hassle?

Wiz6 and 7 are played via Dosbox which is configured in a playable but not optimal way. One might change some settings for a good Wiz7 experience especially when the game proceeds and you continue travelling and exploring by boat.

I'm playing the DOS-Box Daum version and it works just fine for me. I could not get Gold to work though.

I ended up tossing the Wizgold folder into the C:\ directory to get it working. Had to make sure steam did the initial setup first as well.

I'm going to try making a guide of sorts for the game on there. If anyone wants to contribute, feel free to friend me on Steam and let me know. First order of business, direct folks to all the tools and community sites already available.

Also going to see about distributing the Windows Help files that came with Gold, and the map. They don't seem to be functional in the Steam version, even after downloading the appropriate classic Windows Help program. It still looks for them on the D:\ drive from the menu.

I'm considering getting this as I already have a steam account. How is/was it?

Just seems a much easier way to not have to hassle with dosbox, get nice full screen graphics, etc. etc

Why are my replies not showing up?

Yeah the latest ones are now showing up but a few earlier posts seem to have vanished into the ether. Probably something on my end.
