"Anyone have this happen to them?"

Posted by Gidoza on Mar-28-07 at 05:18 PM
I was wondering if anyone's had this occur to them, if so, what causes it, and how to prevent it.

I've only ever had this happen to my Ninjas and Monks. It seems that at some time for some reason - I'll look at my character only to discover that he/she has an armor class of +63 or +45 or some obscene thing like that. Of course, the opponents NEVER miss against my character at this point. Also, changing classes doesn't do anything to reverse the process...the AC stays permanently, it seems.

Anyone know how on earth this happens?

I was interested to see what that thread had to say ... and I turn out to be the savior

So, if you feel like trying the suggested theories, go for it ... the way that guy got his fixed was sending me the file ... you can do the same.

I just now cracked the code on the armor class bug, I know exactly why it occurs (And it only took 2 instances to notice it!).

Okay, has anyone ever noticed their...say...Bushido Blade go missing in the middle of a battle? It happened to me once, *I* thought it was simply a weapon "breaking" - I wasn't under the impression this could happen in Wizardry, but at the time I figured it must be since my Bushido Blade vanished (if I was paying attention, I might have caught why). Anyways, the reason this occurs is this. You need...

1. A weapon in the primary slot.
2. A thrown weapon in the secondary slot. And I mean that literally, a thrown weapon with a single charge left in it.
3. A character with 2 primary and 2 secondary attacks.

This is what will happen: Primary attack, secondary throw, primary attack, then the primary weapon is thrown (because there is no secondary weapon to throw).

Now, if the primary weapon is simply a hand, when it comes to the fourth attack, instead of saying throws 'primary weapon', it'll simply say "throws" and the amount of damage. (Throws a hand?) However, you never lose your hand or your feet, however, each time this happens, you get a major nail towards your armor class. And there's the mystery. =/

P.S. Llevram, I sent you the E-Mail with my character and forgot to mention that it's the Monk that's messed up, however, the Ninja MAY have a minor decrease of armor class as well that might be indistinguishable from her current armor class if I didn't mention it. I could have sworn her AC was -25 at one point, but it's currently only -20. Not that I'm complaining or anything...

.. make that thought I missed it ... I got it and will get it back to you soon.

The thrown thing is a known bug (thrown weapon in one hand runs outm, you throw your primary), but I don't nkow that anyone ever tied it to the armor class bug.

Try it out for yourself...my character's armor class decreases every time I do this where the primary is an open hand.

"MAC?"

Hmmm, I know I have edited a mac version saved game file before, but for some reason this one is not recognized. I'll try looking at it more when I get home today.

One more time Llevram comes to the rescue.

Hi, I'm replying to your E-Mail here because I don't have access to it right now...

Yes, downloading it directly from the website made it work. I don't know if the AC's are correct because I don't recall what they were before, however I'm not sure it makes much of a difference because I don't recall my Monks/Ninjas ever getting hit by physical attacks after level 15...but anyways, yes it worked.

And if my theory above is correct, hopefully you'll never need to come to the rescue again.

Glad to bring that to a close ... so we know in the future (should anyone else need the fix), it was a byte about 440 bytes past the start of the character name. Dequip everything (or figure out the base armor class) and figure out the diff, look for that char.

And if it's off a MAC, emailing the fix as an attachment don't work
