... I thought someone was going to (or had) written up a kind of definitive "how to" on Wiz 7 and DOSBOX ... did that ever happen?

If so, I can make that a link on the forum lobby, under the news icon. I know there have been a millioin posts on the subject already ...

HI, thanks for the help, got it going but is a bit slow, will have to fiddle with frameskip and emulator speed - my old P2-350 may be a bit slow as well?

cheers

Hello Nutman or anyone else. I am having the same problem that Nutman had with it going to NT>ds and freezing up. How did you fix it Nutman? Anyone that can help me get Wizardry 7 running on my windows XP computer with Dosbox would be very welcome to respond to this. I'm trying to to turn my kids on to wizardry.
Thanks,
Colby

Hi,

I know nothing about computers (well, not much...) I am trying to run Wiz7 which I just got in the mail using dosbox. I am trying to follow the instructions on that link (install Wizardry 7 to c:/dsavant) but how do I even do that? Can someone please give me step by step instructions (in computer-moron terms) on how to get this game from the CD-ROM onto dosbox and allow me to play it??? Thanks a lot!
~Mia~

From CD-ROM? It seems you have the GOLD version of Wizardry 7. I'm not sure it will run on DOSbox.

DOSbox has been massively used for a previous version of Wiz7, which used plain old floppy disks.

Actually, there were copies of the original Wiz7 on CD-ROM. I know that is how I first got the game myself, when we got a pack of CD-ROM games to go with our brand-new computer.

However, I believe what you need to do is:

1) Install DosBox
Download it, and open. I think it's an automatic install.

2) Install Wiz7
Open the CD-ROM and there should be an 'install.exe' or 'setup.exe' you can open. That should install it. If nothing else, look for a 'readme.txt' or some other help text. That should give you better instructions

3) Set up DosBox
Once the game is installed, you need to mount the directory containing the game. This is where I'll have to differ to someone with more experience, as I can't remember how to do it unless I have the directions in front of me.

I didn't knew that. Perhaps I'll go look for an original CD-ROM with CoDS, just to have my collection fully supported by the law

I doubt I'll find it in Brazil, tho.

Anyway, this is not what I came here to say: I don't use DOSBox in Window$$$$s, since it's kinda boring to point the config file everytime I need to play a different game. I prefer linux on that matter (dosbox searches the present directory where executed for a dosbox.conf file, which I edit manually, but every game already have an optimized preset - and no need to point the config file anywhere)

But I guess the mount command in DOSBox is pretty simple in Winblows too. It should be something like:

mount D D:

(where D is the virtual cd-rom drive you want to use in dosbox, and D: is the local harddrive. If your CD-ROM drive is not D:, replace it with the proper letter)

And of course, even in the dosbox forums, it's recommended that you create a C:\dosbox directory in your machine, and mount the root directory starting there, so you won't accidentaly delete your files with a mistaken command... then you just:

mount C C:\dosbox

I'm not 100% sure, tho, because as I said, I use dosbox in linux, and here I don't have (thanks God) hard drive letters

Mia - It may sound a bit complicated for the first or second time, but very soon, you'll get how to mount your drives and install the game using DOSbox
