"Critical Strike"
Posted by Leon (Guest) on Aug-17-06 at 06:44 AM
I recently finished the game as a solo Ninja (ended up around level 31, with Critical Strike and Unarmed maxed out) and I was wondering how exactly CS worked.I know it has a chance to instantly kill any enemy, but do any of you know the exact formula to determine the critical chance from the skill?

I recently read somewhere that every 10 points of critical skill equals a 1% chance of an instant kill. Or it might have been 20 points? So, a weapon with 5% critical and a skill level of 50 points would equal a 10% chance of a critical. I have never measured criticals and I have never run an unarmed anything. I just boost dexterity and intelligence and senses and strength and speed and use a lot of knockout/paralysis weapons. And toxic cloud and insanity and Psionic Blast. And elementals.

Im sure it also takes into account other factors such: as level of the monster; your level vs monster level; monsters attributes, resistances, ac, etc. Im sure its not as simple as a percentage formula - as most things in Wizardry games it alway seems the formulas and calculations turn out to be more complex than you think.
Always remember the Tleilaxu Epigram:
Here lies a toppled god
his fall was but a small one
we did but build his pedestal
a narrow and a tall one.

I know of at least 3 things that determine Critical Strikes:1. Your level vs. monster level (your higher level means a better chance)
2. Every 25 points in Critical Strike gives 1% extra chance (meaning Ninjas get +5% at max, while Samurai or Monk get only +4%)
3. Weapon Kill% is a straight up addition (10% kill + 75 Critical Strike = 13% Critical chance)

Thank you very much, Chris. That's what I was looking for.If anyone else knows the exact mechanics of it, though, I'd still like to know them.
