"Problem with the Constable"

Posted by Jonny Merlot (Guest) on Jan-17-06 at 11:38 AM
I want to get the key from the Rapax Constable so I can get the stuff out of the constable's box. I've pickpocketed him in previous games that I've played, but for some reason I'm having a problem this time. When I first found him this time I attempted a pick pocket with my Ninja, but the attempt always failed because he is only a pick pocket skill of three (but he was never caught oddly enough). I gave up, then attacked him but found that the Templars go hostile. I then reloaded and went back to Arnika to get Myles whose pick pocket skill is a 27. I portal in and attempt to pickpocket the constable with Myles, but 100% of the time the Constable catches him and goes neutral. I then give him ten gold to make him friendly and attempt to pick pocket him again, repeat, repeat, repeat, etc. He always catches Myles and goes neutral ... 100% of the time (and I tried alot). Am I just going to have to kill him and slaughter my way through all the Templar knights on the upper castle or is there some way to pick pocket the drunk constable and I'm just not being persistant enough? I'm thinking that something is broken - I mean, how could he not catch my Ninja with a skill of 3 and always catch Myles with a skill of 27?

Use a Death Bomb or other damageless instakill magic; make sure no HP damage occurs against the Constable while you wait for him to die.
When you enter any zone for the first time, not just the chest contents are rolled, but also how many tries you get at PP'ing. So if you get busted on the first try, you don't ever get anything.

Otter's right. Pickpocket results are determined once you zone in.

However, if you don't want to kill the Constable to get his key, you can reload the Pickpocket results by waiting 24 hours.

Basically, do this:

1. Rest two and a half times (interrupt the third rest in the middle of the song). You may need to rest less if you've been wandering around the Constable's zone for a while. The goal here is to have a game somewhere around 18-20 hours after you first entered the zone
2. Save the game
3. Rest once more, completely
4. Steal. If he doesn't give you the key, then repeat from step 3

That actually worked perfectly (I had my doubts at first). I put everyone on defend then had my Bishop and Lord both cast Instant Death. Took about three shots but he exploded and the templar were still neutral afterwards.

If you just fight and kill the Constable (with inflicting damage or without) no one will care. He is in a special faction, neither Rapax Templar, nor Common Rapax.

That's not accurate info. If you haven't become a Templar yet and you kill the Constable, the Templar faction will become Hostile just like the Common. I don't know what happens after you become a Templar (because I killed the Constable before becoming a Templar). If they didn't go hostile I wouldn't have had to ask the forum my original question ;o)

That's exactly what happens, if you kill the Constable *after* you become a templar - no one cares.
