"Problem running Wizardry 8"

Hey, all. I've successfully installed Wiz 8 on my comp and played the game a few years ago. However, when I installed it yesterday (successfully), I could not run the game.

Here's my specs, first:

ATI Radeon Mobility 7500
ESS Audigy sound card
512 mb RAM

However, I get this message when I attempt to actually run the game: "The instruction '0x100193f1' referenced memory at '0x73676ef1'. The memory could not be 'read'".

I went to sirtech's tech support site and took the advice there, installing the game to a folder with a simpler path (C:\Wiz8) but am still getting this error.

Any help would be appreciated, there's nothing more frustrating than having a rare, great game that you can't figure out how to run!!!

/Will

Maybe lingering bits of the old install coudlinterfere with the new one? Aside from that, I'm not sure what happens if you run it off the wrong CD (#3) ...

What do you have running in the background? It is trying to access memory near the 2GB area!! How big of a disk swap file do you have? The memory referenced is 1,936,158,449. That is a lot of memory to have.

What is the disk swap file and how can I check/change it? I will check and see what might be running in the background, make sure all files from old installs are gone, and try again.

I ran EndItAll2 to ensure that no other programs were running, and tried the install again. Installed just fine, but got the same error, immediately soon after the SirTech logo popped up.

I had been getting an error telling me to log on as with administrator priviledges and try again, but when I used the alternate SafeDisc I didn't have this problem any longer, just the new problem described in my first post.

If so, then the "ust be administrator" is what I would suspect. It may look like it installs succssfully, but doesn't really.

0x73676ef1 is not a valid address really (usually). The error may be generated either by new Direct3D or by the new graphic driver.
Try to recall if you installed anything new since last successful launch of the game.

Hey, all. I've finally gotten the game to run! I downloaded a no-cd crack, and now it works perfectly. Strange. Anyway, I'm off to create my party and venture out into Dominus!

Thanks for your quick responses. I may just stick around this forum, also, as it seems to be a cool place.
