Problem is I load the game, apply the patch, game runs fine first time. Save game, exit, try to come back later game will not come up from desktop. Reapply patch, game runs fine until next time I save and exit, then same as befire. Can anyone help?

Try deleting and reassigning the shortcut.
Try making sure the game is in C:/progrem files (slash?) Sirtech / Wizardry 8 before you make a new shortcut to it. Maybe you have two seperate game installations. (so also make sure you patch the game the shortcut leads to...)
