"the origin of item merging and constructing multiple-shot range weapon"

(I am not too specific to avoid spoilers. You veterans will know what I am talking about)

In forums like this it is common knowledge that certain characters with an appropriate skill-level can merge two different items into a third one, and that a certain character class can construct a specific double and triple ranged weapon.

But - because I am sort of a purist - where does this knowledge come from? Could everybody who starts this game the first time have this knowledge? Is it in the manual? (I'm quite sure it is not)

Only a Gadgeteer has the specific skill to merge items into weapons. The skill involved is Engineering and the Gadgy is the only one with that specific skill. Now if you class cgange the new class will retain the enguneering skill and still be able to use all created devices that are not class specific.Any profession with the skill of Alcheny can merge certain potions to mahe better ones provided the skill is high enough.

Experimentation. In the section "Reviewing Your Characters" the "Item Options" are explained (Manual, P41):
"Merge Items: ...(Attempting to merge all manner of implausible items is the Gadgeteer's favorite hobby.)..."
I didn't find out through experimenting, though, that the various multi- weapons could be made. I don't know if that was discovered or leaked, but i found out on one of these forums.
