"Buying back gadgets?"

Posted by Chrissie (Guest) on Nov-09-04 at 08:06 AM
Hi,

I started the game without gadgeteer, and stupid little me was convinced I wouldn't miss one. So I sold the gadgets I found, until in Trynton, I changed my mind and badly wanted Madras (the Trynnie gadgeteer) in my party (that huge omnigun, you understand ). Unfortunately, the people I sold my gadgets to, didn't have them anymore.

I did a search on this forum and found 2 possible solutions:
- it is said that if you sell a unique gadget, it shows up in the inventory of a random NPC after a while. Doesn't seem to be happening with me, can anyone confirm this?
- someone suggested that the NPC you sold the gadget to, still has it in his/hers inventory, but it is not visible because he/she sells too much other junk. Solution would be to buy much of his/hers inventory, and then the gadgets would reappear. I tried buying their entire inventory, and nothing. Sleeping afterwards, going back in the shop after a while, but no gadgets. Even tried killing them (saved first of course), but they didn't drop my gadgets after their horrible demise. Am I doing something wrong?

(though not what you want to hear)

The merchants recycle their inventory (every 24 hours?) ... so it is more than likely just gone. But, that is what is great about this game, you can learn from this mistake, and apply that knowledge next time you play .

There are lots more gadgets scattered around Dominus. Just have Madras practice with his Lightning Rod and Omnigun and wait for new junk to appear.

I always drop the gadgets in one of HeLi's downstairs chests so I don't have to lug them around.

The only things you can sell that stay in Merchant inventories are Custom Item parts and side-quest items (eg Coral or Diamond). Everything else will be sold in the next selling cycle. (there are three 8-hour cycles for Merchants, two in which they restock things they carry, and one in which stuff disappears) Everything they have will be visible in the Buy window, you just have to scroll. Buying ammo when it's down to <10 per bundle will only make it more likely that they'll get more different stuff next buying cycle. Items you sell them that they don't stock stay gone.
