"looking for a new game"

Posted by Matt (Guest) on Jul-27-04 at 07:51 PM
hey everyone,

I just finished Wizardry 8 and i must say that it has been one of the best games taht I think i have ever played. I was just wondering if anyone had any idea of any other games taht are similiar to Wizardry 8 (i.e. not crappy and have story lines that will keep me interested for more than a few days)

any ideas would help me greatly

thx

Matt

"There's always room for jello. So says DOOM!"
Wizardry 6 & 7, if you can get them to work on your comp. Both are old DOS games. Use DOSBox, but that guarentees nothing, as Wiz7 refuses to work for me even then.

Devil Whiskey is highly similar to the old Bard's Tale games (but don't try to write down all the text while in the dungeons). Fairly decent, and has many, many mods coming for it, including a BT mod(already out) Bard's Lore, another, and Wizardry 1. www.devilwhiskey.com

Early Might and Magics, up to World of Xeen, but like Wiz6-7, they are old, hard to find, and only work in DOS. Xeen has a few issues with DOSBox, nothing serious, but it is irritating to play. MMIII I haven't got set up properly, as it runs almost as fast as a 340 Duster.

From Heuristic Park, makers of Wizards & Warriors ... I don't remember the name of this new game. It looks promising, but then so did W&W ... but it was buggy.

MMORPG is where its at, 10 bucks a month is worth it...Star wars galaxy or Final Fantaxy XI would be great to have

(as you may be finding out)

We here are a bit of a different breed, that tend not to go for the online MMORPG ... we like RPG. We also tend to prefer boards to chat.

While chat gives you instant gratafication, boards give you a record. Something someone says nay give tou a briallant insight or idea but get distracted and... POOF. With a board (especially THIS coard ) you get the answers you need without giving the whole game away. If you need that much help do a search use the word "walkthrough" and the board will point you to fan sites that can lead you through step by step.

I just thought of a game for you (not mmorpg). Morrowind, its a great single player game very similar to this one. You have one charactor though. Race/class/skill selection still still apply and its battle system is more hack&slash than many RPG's. The story line is way less influencial than wisardry8 because you can go wherever you want. What i liked the most is the huge 3d world that is hardly possible to explore all of it and there are tons of cool quests. Not like running on a road ( right here to mt giga, left to Anika, straight to other town...They have it on xbox...thats how i played it and loved it.

I thnk that series comes closest to the RPG quality I get out of a Wizardry. The combat is a bit different, in that you switch to a gridded combat screen ... but makes it a bit more technical ... still turn based.

It is an older game, may be hard to find and the graphics are nowhere near wiz8, but are comparable to earlier wizzrdries (6&7). Good background music as well.

I have it at home, including the patch to fix several problems. Does it run under WinXP's DOS or is it a Windows program? I forget.

I do remember that if I don't sit these people down occasionally and DRAG THE FOOD INTO THEIR MOUTHS they get hungry and weak. I'm in favor of a little reality but hand-feeding them like baby birds is too much realism.
