I have gotten to the Umpani base but I cannot enter the barracks or the commasary. When I try to walk into the entrance it is like my chars have hit a brick wall.

Yes.
Seriously.
Back up about 5 steps, hold down the shift key and then hold down the up-arrow key. You will bounce up in the air then hit the ground. Remove your finger from the shift key at that point.

I had the same trouble but in more areas - I wasn't able to get off the lift in the space port for example. Sometimes they can't go over small ledges. It's like they're dragging their feet - ! H
