"Question"

Posted by KitKat on Feb-22-04 at 10:40 AM
Not sure where I am suppose to post this but I had a question to ask everyone...I have played the following games:Wizardry 8, Icewind Dale 2, all diablo's, Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Dungeon siege and a couple others I cant remember unless I look through my cd's...*S*...And I loved them all...But back to my question...Is there any other games that someone could recommend for me to play? Only thing is that I don't want to play online games like Everquest...Thanks in advance

Have you tried either Morrowind or any of Might & Magic 6 7 or 8? Morrowind is good in the initial game and with the expansion packs can become truly awesome as a game.

I loved it for the first few days ... by a week, it was too repetitive. I have not tried the expansion packs.

I have heard good things about Temple of Elemental Evil, though mostly that it is a good nostalgic game (if you played the original). It is said to be buggy, but a patch ws coming out.

You might want to check out Wizards and Warriors ... though it has its issues as well (what game doesn't?).

"BG II"

You haven't mentioned Baldurs Gate II / Throne of Bhaal (or Icewind Dale), I think BG II is way better than BG, so if you liked BG I can recommend BG II. Many people think that Planescape:Torment is a great game as well, but that one never came close to getting me hooked to it.

I haven't tried Might & Magic...I thought that was an online game?...I already have Morrowwind...That was one of the games I had forgotten I owned...*S*...As for Baldurs II I have played both 1 and 2...and I liked 2 sooooo much better...*S*...And I have played both 1 and 2 Icewind Dale...*S*...I did try TOEE and wasn't bad but for some reason didn't really catch my attention. Never heard of Planescape though...I will read up on that.

Planescape:Torment is based on the same engine as BG/Icewind Dale. The character development system is fairly different though since you're dead (well, almost). I've never felt like a zombie (well, it's more that i never liked it when i felt like one :p), so it's somehow a world i don't like to project myself into in my spare time. It's one of the few games i bought that i haven't played to the end at least once.

But just like Pystal said, i've heard of many, many ppl say it's the best crpg there is (even though it's old).

Hi,

Have you played Torment Planscape? It is one of the best rpgs out there. Fallout 1 and 2, Arcanum, Divine Divinity, and many others.

Give Planescape Torment a try. It really is worth it.

Have fun and if you like these I have many other suggestions.

all you Planescape - lovers: I'm going to buy it at E-Bay, after I've read many enthusiastic reviews (and at 6 € I don't care about the not-so-enthusiastic reviews ).

@ KitKat:
"Sacred" looks quite promising. It is to be released this week (at least in Germany). It's supposed to be a Diablo-Clone, but with more depth: More quests, more story etc.

Fallout 1+2 (Infinity-engine) are sometimes regarded as two of the most brilliant RPGs ever.

Speaking of older RPG: The Northland-Trilogy (Realms of Arcania I-III) is quite good, especially the third part (excellent character-development + very strategic fights, at some points even p+p-like (what a surprise, it's the adaptation of the german p+p "Das Schwarze Auge"))

"Sternenschweif"

Interesting you mention Das Schwarze Auge. I've played the DSA adaption "Sternenschweif", but that one was too realistic (like the DSA rules as well). It's bearable that you need to carry around food, but when you're in the middle of nowhere and your boots break down, and you take damage all the time walking to the next marketplace it's just a bit too much for me. (Especially when you don't get a warning beforehand).

Hehe, that's true, characters dying because they walk barefooted doesn't contribute to an enjoyable game...

There were several such things in Sternenschweif (Startrail it was in english, I think): Your characters definitely catch a flu, if they don't wear appropriate clothes and have no sleeping bags with them. The problem got worse, if you didn't have any medicine to cure the flu: death by sickness was a common cause.

Still I liked roaming around Arcania - there were so many random encounters, like trapped animals, rangers, wild elves, traveling salesmen, swollen streams etc. that the whole world felt pretty "alive".

Nevertheless I liked the third part, "Shadows over Riva / Schatten über Riva" better. The whole game was located in, under and around the city of Riva, so the next marketplace was always close at hand.
