what are those black and white cirlce icons that have been appearing over my enemies heads during game play? - can't find them in the manual anywhere

They shouldn't just be black and white, they should also be green and yellow. They indicate illnesses, conditions and protective spells. For example, a blinded character has a white-blind eye icon, an insane character has a white straight jacket, a nauseated character has a green sick-face. A multicolored shield represents element shield. Right click on a character to see their conditions spelled out.
