"How do I refresh a shopkeeper's stock?"
Posted by The Confused (Guest) on Sep-26-03 at 08:30 PM
I read in a FAQ somewhere that I can refresh a shopkeeper's stock by buying a few items, then waiting 24 hours. I have tried this and it hasn't worked for me.I am specifically talking about Anna in Arnika. When I first went to her she had a bunch of spell books that I wanted, but when I went back to her later (with the cash for them) they were replaced by a bunch of useless ammo. Have I lost the spell books for good? I have rested for probably weeks in game time, and haven't seen any spell books, just an endless cycle of ammo refreshes.
Please tell me there is some way I can get the books back.
Thanks.

By resting three cycles in a row, the shopkeepers stock cycles. Some (or many) items appear based on your party level (or maybe in game time). Try it with other shopkeepers .. Braffit sells spell books too. I just did this today with him, to get e sets of remove curse and soul shield. It took 4 or 5 times of resting 3 times in a row, but I got all the books. Sometimes he would have both, sometimes just one or the other. Tools for Wizardry(r) 7

I had a problem with Anna. I used her for training Divinity(cast mindread and camp, over and over again) and all that time she was adding missiles to her inventory. The game will only show you the first 350 stock items (give or take), but she must have had 4000 to 5000 items in inventory. Using the filter buttons also only works on that first 350 items. I had to buy 1300 bundles of 25 arrows, 1300 piles of bullet stones, and about 1100 bundles of crossbow bolts before I could see any spell books.
It's a strange experience, as you buy an item showing in inventory, another, which wasn't showing before, scrolls in.. I thought it was some kind of endless loop bug until I had bought enough arrows that stones started showing.
I don't know if I am unique in this, but if you see about six items, then it's all arrows, then go get some cash and start buying...

... is to find someone who will buy them from you at a higher price and you have got a business

Because I have NEVER had the vendor problems that everyone else talks about. The number of items that a vendor carries appears to be a constant for me. When they get new stuff, some old stuff disappears. I have NEVER had hidden items that I had to force onto the list by buying useless junk from vendors and dump it on the ground. My only trick is to sell a vendor one item, the list gets resorted (the new stuff moves away from the bottom to its proper place in the list) and I see everything they've got. Sometimes I will buy all the arrows/rocks then sell them back, but thats just my inner neat freak acting out.
The stuff that is normally at the end of the list is always at the end of the list, no matter how much or little I buy. No matter how many times I sleep. Nothing hidden. Ever. In two+ years.
Of course, I have to shut down the game and restart before I enter Arnika (on two sets of CD's loaded onto two different machines) but I have never heard anyone else with this problem, so I guess my Arnika bug offsets the vendor thing.

Yeah, I sold them to He'Li. I took a loss, but I needed the cash back. (My Alchemy skill hadn't developed yet.)Also, instead of dumping them on the ground, put them in a chest to avoid all the distracting white dots on the radar screen.

Oh how funny, putting stuff in chests, I never would have thought of it myself. Me, I feel better about at least selling things back (my rawulf is a bit anal about gaining & keeping as much gold as he can!). Anyone have a list of possible spell books available from Lord Braffit & Anna? I have been looking for armorplate and just haven't seen it. H

I just leave stuff lying around ... easier to find it that way. As long as you don't leave it all in the same pile ... ugh! I did that one time, droppe everything everyone had in one spot. When I left the inventory screen, the display showed this triwling mess of axes, swords, arrows, etc. You can't just pick up an item out of that you want ... it is just whichever one you get off the stack. I haven't tried it yet, but does it come out all ordered & such if you throw it in a chest? or does it come up on the neat little list like when you first open it? H

No, in a chest, yes
