"Nessie "

What's up with el Loch Ness? I can't even put a dent in her before everyone's toast! Even tried sending 7 elementals after her while I hid behind a rock...and the phrase "no damage" was all I saw till they died.

I can make it to Bayjin by running/hiding, but it looks like there's another exit to the shallows that I can't get to. Least that's what appears to be the case on radar...is there another area there? And if so, how do you deal with this steroid monster?

Oh, while I'm at it, I shut down the T'rang transporter and promptly made some enemies. I had also been doing T'rang missions and had found the Savant's ship for Zang...he then wanted me to find an Umpani infiltrator. Is this mission even worth doing? Or will Zang forgive me if I complete it?

TIA,

Q

Yeah, Nessie's tough, but beatable. I find the best way to deal with her is to have my shields on maximum, then go in and hack. Don't waste time with ranged combat, you won't do enough damage.
As for the T'Rang, I don't know since I always do the T'Rang-Umpani alliance. You get the most XP that way.

It is indeed possible to defeat Nessie using nothing but ranged weapons. I know because I just did it a couple of days ago.

In fact, I did it several times, losing one or another party member before finally succeeding w/o anyone dying (I wanted everyone to get some of that XP!!!). Here's the trick:

As you approach the end of the path leading to Nessie's lair, go right to the edge and look down - you'll see a ledge just below. Drop down onto the ledge. Nessie is visible off to the right. Buff your party and hit the combat button; Nessie should go hostile and you can start blasting away. I found that I couldn't target Nessie with magic from this vantage point, so just keep buffing/healing and blasting.

The last successful attempt was actually a cakewalk - Nessie was paralyzed almost from the get-go and was re-paralysed throughout and so only got off a couple of attacks. I credit the Ming stones for this (you *have* been hoarding them and saving them for a *special* occasion, right? - well, this is it).

What level are your PC's? I have found the best way to take care of Nessie is to get in It's face and hack away.

Protection:

Make sure you have some decent armor. Upgrade as best you can.
Make sure all your protection spells are cast.

Good luck.

Congtatulations, tou have just completed the final Umpani mission blown the alliance and permenently pissed-off the T'rang. The only way you can fix this one (if you want to) is to go to an earlier save and restart from there. This will not in any way affect your ability to complete the game.

Well that's kinda beat. I sure never saw a hint that an alliance might be possible...quuite the opposite actually. Did I miss something? Oh well, too late now...would lose many hours of gameplay going back (I've had a thoroughly unproductive Sunday playing Wizardy )

My question now is where to look for the 3rd "ball"? I've got the one from the Mook and the one from Rat-Boy thief, and the General told me to meet him at Ascention Peak when I have the third. But if someone told me where it is, I've since forgotten and the journal isn't a help...

Thanks,

Q

Guess you haven't found Mad Marten yet, huh?

I was kinda under the assumption that the guy was dead...found his diary, badge and Serenity Helm, so figured he wasn't around anymore. I've been all over Marten's bluff I think...still haven't explored Rapax Rift or Ascention Peak though. Is he in one of them?

Oh, and using "ball" saved me from massacring the spellings... ;)

Thanks,

... re: marten? Somewhere along the line, I think it is Croc, but someone or somewhere you get a clue he left martens bluff for the sea caves.

I think it might be Madras who tells you that

It is Crock who tells you Marten went to the sea caves. Remember that most distinctly from my last game.

I just took her out last night - Lvl 17 party. Used 4 Canned elementals, who did about 350 damage between them, and just plugged away with ranged attacks from her flank. She was immune to all my spell status attacks, but did succumb to effects from bows/ammo. She actually got KO'd by a mystic arrow when she was down to about 150hp anyway. Just had one death during the fight, which I ressurected before the end, and had my Bard casting heal all continuously with my casters keeping up her stamina.

After a couple more tries, I finally figured out what the "problem" was. For some reason, even though I was engaging Nessie out in the open center area, the game was reading her as being "blocked" to any attack except magic...everyone's weapons were "red".

Tried a number of things, reloads, camping, etc, to no avail. Finally just got around her to the Sea CAves, and when I came back though things were working right...beat her rather handily.

Thanks for the help,

Q

In time. Also, you can take the Umpani shortcut after doing lots of training.
If this even matters anymore.

I find it kind of odd how users in this forum so commonly post about fights in terms of how hard or easy they are etc. without ever mentioning difficulty level. The difficulty level, at least with a party that doesn't have maxed relevant combat skills, can swing a party's strength from all to none.
