"gageteer and powercast skill"

Can a gageteer use the powercast skill?
My level 13 gageteer can no longer put bonus points in , ranged combat, engineering, modern weapons and mythology. Still working on locks and traps and artifacts. I've got 3 extra bonus points I'm not sure what to do with? I don't know if she can eventualy get a gun to go into her other hand? Would it be pointless to start building her dual weapons skill? How 'bout sheild skill? She uses a shield, but it seems worthless.

No, don't wast any level-up points in Power Cast for either the Bard or Gadgie, or any other non-mana using profession. An easy way to tell is to use the gadgets or instruments exclusively for at least 2 or 3 long battles. Normally, you'd be sure to receive, at the very least, 1 increase point in Power Cast. You'll see that you will NEVER increase Power Cast with a Bard or Gadgie without applying level-up points.

This has been asked before (does Powercast apply to gadgeteers and bards). I don't know that we really know the answer ... has anyone accuratley tested it? For that matter, it shoudl be the same answer for the use of powders and potions (and invoked spells from items).Since they are all effectively spells, I would hope that powercast made a difference.

I should have been more specific. I've actually done what I described above. In one of my games with a Bard, I started putting 3 points into Power Cast. For 6 solid levels I applied the 3 points. I stopped applying level-up points after that for 1 reason. It NEVER increased on it's own(stayed at 18 for the rest of the game). If indeed Power Cast is used when playing/operating the instruments/gadgets, this would have increased on it's own through usage. Just as it does with magic casters who have Power Cast.
After six solid levels of it never increasing on it's own, I basically concluded that I had wasted 18 level-up points.

I agree with everything said about powercast. I would put the extra points into shield. Since she is using a shield, shield points aren't useless... while they might not help much, they will still help more than putting them elsewhere. If your shield seems worthless right now, it is probably because you don't have enough shield skill. With a higher skill, things hit the shield more often, and then it starts to go up on its own.

The gun is two handed, as far as I can tell. So no shield while firing it. Ammo goes into the second hand spot. I too have tested powercast on gadgies and bards without seeing any evidence that it ever applies. Best test is the increase on its own. So, no, don't waste points on power cast.
