"Priest - Valk; where are my spells?"

Hey fellas,

at lvl 10 and 75 Theology I switched my Priest into a Valkyrie, but now she can only cast the first rank of any of her spells. Is that a bug or intended? How long does it take until the full range of spells is available again? Did I switch too early? Will she ever be as powerful as a pure Priest? I'm starting to regret the decision because atm all she's good for is doing pitiful melee damage.

Hehe, nevermind guys. Turns out the spells slowly come back as she levels in the new class. Guess it's a similar formula as in Wiz8.

Shame the forum seems dead. The game's a timeless classic.

I imagine the rules for 8 were largely carried over from 7. This post describes the rules for being able to case what spells, when comparing the "pure class" (i.e. Priest) to the "hybrid class" (i.e. Valkyrie). The hybrids must be higher level, to cast the same spells as the pure.

If memory serves, when a character changes class and suffers the level drop, she can still cast any spell that she knows -- no matter how high the spell level (e.g. Recharge, a level 6 spell) -- and may also learn any spell for which she has a sufficient skill level in the appropriate school (Theology).

Thus, a Faerie endlessly switching level from bard to thief and back again every two levels can learn Nuclear Blast once he reaches 98 Thaumaturgy, even though only a 3rd level character.

Casting spells, however, depends upon a combination of character level and spell level. Any known spell may be cast at a minimum level of 1. (So the 3rd level faerie bard may cast Nuclear Blast at level 1, and could still do so even if he changed class to a 1st level thief.)

The maximum level that a spell may be cast at is character level - spell level. Or something thereabouts. Play around with it a little bit, and you should be able to figure out the exact formula.
