"Diplomacy"

I'm new to Wizardry 7 ... only played 8 before and all that class changing stuff is completely new for me.

maybe a dumb question but anyway... I read somewhere that you get the Diplomacy skill if a char has personality 14 or more. I wanted to give Diplomacy to my Valkyrie but can't select it with personality 14.

now I thought about creating her as Lord, giving the starting points to diplomacy and then changing her class to Valkyrie immediately. Can I get good a diplomacy skill that way?

If you are playing Wizardry Gold, it's pointless ... since Diplomacy doesn't work. When they ported from DOS to windows, somethings didn't quite make the translation and Diplomacy just no longer matters to the game play.

If you are playing the original DOS version of Wiz 7 .. I don't know the answer.

I believe you need to have a successful attempt at diplomacy after meeting the Personality criteria before the skill will pop up for you. Like how Firearms doesn't show up until you get a skill up from practicing.

No, that's not true...and I'm not sure if that works out with diplomacy, never happened to me

A character can get the diplomacy skill in the creating process. I just tried it with a Bishop and a Lord, the skill is there.

Right, because IIRC those two specific classes can actually start with Diplomacy. (I know for sure the Lord can...)

The key thing here is he's picking a Valkyrie, which doesn't normally start with it.

Any character with a 14 in both personality AND intelligence will gain diplomacy upon leveling up when these minimums have been met. In addition, any character that successfully makes "PEACE" with an NPC, regardless of stats, will automatically gain the skill with a point added to it. My latest party had characters that gained the skill in both ways.
