Okay, so L'montes is offering me over 3000gp for the robes, so there must be some benefit to them, right? But they have a horrible +4ac and none of the item lists I've seen list any magical properties. Any knowledge?

Just sell them. There are several items which have only negative effects but still have some shopping value. Perhaps the high price reflects the level of the game and the troubles your party has gone through to come there!
