I have finished the game with several different sets of characters, and I wonder whether it is worthwhile building up really great characters.

I've spent lots of time doing things like building up high-level ninjas, high level lords, and turning a high level mage into a thief. But I realised then that it is possible to finish the game comfortably with a party which is much less strong. Making really great characters can be fun and rewarding but would it be more rewarding to finish the game with characters who move quickly through the game and don't spend so much time killing the same monsters over and over again just for the experience?

I tend to find I enjoy it both ways >} It is nice to have characters that you have built up that can mow through just about anything, but it is also gratifying to have those battles you win by the skin of your teeth.

Most of the time I thinkit is just personal preference adn what you want out of the game that really determines what you do and how much you enjoy it.

Like Llevram said, both ways of playing the game can be very rewarding in their own different ways. Both methods provide different experiences, and that's just another great thing about Wizardry... you get total freedom to play it anyway you want.

if you have the archives, take them to the next level! i found it fun to import my all stars into Wiz 2 and wipe the place clean. then, when i thought that was too easy, i imported them into Wiz 3 (the import itself weakens your characters, claiming that they are 'decendants' of your originals) and had a great time as well.
