After a long layoff (20ish years), I have found the Ultimate Wizardy Archives and started playing again. I created an evil party and was able to put the hurt on Werdna a couple times. Unfortunately, on my thrid time through, I was surprised and killed. Back in the day I would have done the old re-boot, recover trick. However, I missed the opportunity (being old and slow now) and bam...dead in the maze.No problem right, I created my good party (need both eventually for Wiz III), and proceeded to level them up. Now they are on the cusp of being able to track my evil party and pull them out of the maze. Problem is I can't get the Priest spell KANDI to work. All I get when I cast the spell is a "What?" message. Very frusterating.
I decided to test this with a patsy, so I created a level 1 character, took him down to maze level 2 and had him die on his first encounter. My Good Level 10 Priest couldn't detect him with KANDI and couldn't find him near the spot he died in. OK, so its not an alignment issue.
If I can't KANDI my old party, it will take me ages to track them down. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong, or why KANDI isn't working?
Hi,I am not sure but I think this is a bug in the IBM Ultimate Wizardry Archives version.
Personnaly I play the Apple II version, which doesn't have this problem. Another huge problem with the UWA version is that your characters tend to lose more attribute points when leveling up instead of gaining them, that's a game killer unless you use a cheat program to correct the situation.
E-mail me at eric@iosphere.net if you want me to help you get the Apple II version (which would be running on an emulator on your PC).
Another bonus is that the Apple II version is in 16 colours, the UWA (IBM version) is in 4 colours only.
