"Where to find free Wizardry 1 online..."

Finally found it here and wanted to share the joy. The apple emulator works flawlessly and beautifully on my Windows 2000 machine. The joys of junior high school are back! Okay, and college, too...

There are disk images from the original apple games plus all the software you need to get going. Best of all, it plays at the exact speed of the old machines! It's a blast from the past! The graphics are perfect!

If the apple emulator versions are "copy protected" requiring the use of secret codes from the manual to enter the dungeon, instead use the Super Nintendo versions, which have no protection codes. That's what I'm doing with Wiz 5 and loving it!

I've downloaded this and it works, for the most part.

Thank you for the suggestion as paying over $200.00 for the UWA seems a bit excessive

I cannot, however, create a backup disk: I go through the steps, but then end up with a message "Cannot backup to a Wizardry disk"

Nor does the Wizfix downloaded work. This may have something to do with not being able to create a backup disk. It opens up just fine, but when I go to the page that is supposed to list my characters, the details are gibberish and the program crashes.

Any Ideas on what is not working right? Or what I might be doing wrong.

What is a UWA? I can't imagine what you'd have to pay $200 for. I have the ultimate wiz archives so I could always send you the wiz 1 (or any other number) game files which work perfectly in dosbox.

No, he actually meant $200. An unopened, factory sealed UWA was going for that or close to that price on ebay the last time a looked. The average price is upwards of 80 bucks for a used one.

i had an apple emulator specifically to play wiz 1 it had a virus in it tho' so be careful what u download.

i've also managed to use the img2dsk software to create wizardry on a 3.5 disk and now i can play it wherever i go (even computers in stores, take that werdna!)

how does one get a version of wiz 1 that plays thru dosbox? i always problems with that.. since the original game was programmed with its own version of dos..

..amazingly i once managed to copy the original wiz disk (years ago) just using the old dos copy commands.. i don't for the life of me know how i managed to pull that off.. (thanks trebor!)

happy grinding to all!
