LAST EDITED ON May-07-17 AT 05:16 AM (Pacific)Just in case anyone has some money burning a hole in their pocket (funny, seems like you never hear that saying anymore ... sign of the times?), you can put it to good use through heifer.org via my fundraising page.
They use the funds (over 75% of donations go to their programs) to place a Heifer, Water Buffalo, Goat, Alpaca, Bees, etc with a family in need. They were founded on the principle: "not a cup of milk, a cow". Kind of like the "teach a man to fish" deal ... but applied to farming and such. Oh, and the recipient family is required to donate their animal's first offspring to another family in need ... so it really becomes more like: "not a cup of milk, a herd".
Full disclosure: By fund raising at least $250, I get a free entry into the Tough Mudder coming up in June. I hit the $250 long ago, the rest is just more livestock helping families and communities now. And by hitting $500, I got a T-shirt. Who knows what I'll get for $750 or my goal of $1,000.
