how do you talk to an rpc after they are in your party?

like a dolt, i hurriedly fixed rfs and plopped him into the group, just to avoid millions of wasps. now that i am somewhere relatively safe, i wish i had asked him a ton of questions.

am i doomed to dismiss him, go back and get him and then ask away between battles, and re-recruit him?

You have to release them from your party they will then appear right next to you, you can talk to them. If you want them in back in your party click recruit after you are done talking and back they are.
