"Having hard time with ninja critical hits"

Posted by Twylight (Guest) on Nov-20-01 at 11:07 AM
My ninja is level 10 with 102 crit skill and around 75 stealth.

I NEVER get the critical strike hits with thrown weapons (the only reason i have him btw)

I have used knives, shurkiens, darts - never seen one

I have used slings - nope

WTF is going on - can someone CONFIRM getting ranged criticals with a ninja?

If I put him in the front lines barehanded he gets a few - but I got fighters up there who ROCK the house - dont need no stinking bare handed ninja

Thanks
twi

Yeah... I never get thrown criticals. What gives? Am I doing something wrong? My ninja has similar stats, with high dex, speed and senses.

A ninja usually only gets critical hits in close combat fighting - it is possible, but it requires a very high ranged combat skill, critical hit skill, senses skill and intelligence skill (as all of these affect ranged combat critical hits). The RANGER on the other hand is the profession that gets critical hits regularly.

How hard is he throwing? If stamina is down, that will dig on performance as well.

My ninja's strength is reasonably high. He usually only has his stamina drop when he starts doing multiple martial attacks.

My ninja has gotten occasional crit. hits. In fact - most of my chars have had them.
It also depends on the monsters you're fighting as well.

I was having a hard time with critical hits, So I read the manual and I started putting points into senses and now I get a critical hit about 1 out 4 hits now. Not only with my ninja, but samurai and monk as well.

Up to level 10, my ninja is the only character scoring
critical hits. He's using Sai and Nunchaku. Other
characters capable are Samurai and Monk, but nothing yet.
While using a sling the ninja had no instant kills, then
I bought him a bow and bingo!

You get criticals with your ninja using a bow?

i had a few thrown criticals with my ninja at level 8 using normal throwing knife. perhaps u have to put in senses and dexterity. he also gives some with nunchakas.

You might try switching your ninja over to another class such as fighter, but that depends on where you are in the game. I think that it's pretty safe to switch a char over when they're around lvl 15, becuase you _can_ get the new class beyond that level again b4 beating the game. My ninja didn't do a thing for damage w/ close combat or w/ a bow, but i switched her to a fighter (sadly enough two lvls before she maxed out dex), and now she does four times the damage, and, ahem, loses access to 3 spells, god forbid. She had 108 crit as a ninja, which did me no good; my gadg commonly killed more than she did. As an aside, the best thing to have if you're importing a party is a female elven ranger w/ an elven bow. Crit hit, Crit hit, Crit hit.

Yes, yes. Elven bows are wonderful. I got two in Bane, the imported into Crusaders, then I got into Eight and they stuck with me. The game sure has been easier with them, my Ninja uses an Elven Bow and he has no trouble at all getting critcals and I have low senses. However my Ninja seems to have trouble getting criticals with his hands so I often times will force him to use the bow in a particularly difficalt situation.

A ninja w/ ranged weapons and high crit hit can be a good thing in the sense that they can guard the rear flank, while being something of a tank. This opens up a front space for a nother fighter type, while defending your mages that you can put in the middle instead of the back.

Really, you get criticals with a bow and your ninja? Is it purely from the bow? Ninjas are only supposed to get "thrown" criticals, I thought...

My ninja had several thrown instant kills (lvl 10; crit. ~50; poison darts, thrown knives, and shurikens) vs. weeds, slimes, and probably others as well, but I do not remember exactly.

Yeah, I've only gotten instakills with thrown items, not bows and slings...

I'll have to check that. Could definitely be something other than the nin crit hit skill.

If you are getting critical hits with a bow on your ninja it has to be from the bow. Ninjas only get ranged critical with thrown items- slings wont work for crits either.
