"Finished game but have some questions..."

Posted by Pearce (Guest) on Dec-12-01 at 08:40 AM
Hi all! I have 'finished' Wizardry 8 but appear to have missed some things along the way so I have some questions for those of you out there that did things differently than I did.

1. What's up with Rex? He appears friendly but I was never able to talk with him.

2. I went everywhere but never found the King or Queen of the Rapax. Just the prince on Assention peak. Why is that?

3. How did the sorcery queen fit into the story? I didn't find any mention of her anywhere in the game. Just met and killed her, that was it.

4. What is the importance of the Helazoid?

5. What was the importance of Marten's helm?

6. Placing one of the orbs into its niche caused a slab to shift, then I heard the sounds of something undead nearby, but
didn't see anything. Only happened with one of the orbs, but what was the significance of that?

7. I never got around to actually using the missles or the flamethrower. Where those weapons meant to be used in a specific battle or against a specific monster?

8. Was there something to do on the upper level flight-deck of the Umpani? I never went there, I presume you pickpocket a pass from the general. Was something good up there?

9. I never go to talk to the Mafia Don. He was hostile from the beginning and I was forced to kill him. Was he useful in someway (other than having one of the orbs)?

10. Are there large areas of the mines to explore? I only found passages leading back to the shack. I did find a silver nugget from the Trang side of the mines, but never found a use for it.

Thanks,

Pearce

I don't knwo the answer to some , but I'll do what I can:

2 - I believe that Al-Sedexxus was the queen. The king you meet in the Wilderness clearing.

4 - The helezoid was a hold-over from Wiz7. It was only the continuation of the saga. She gives you a banner to give to Braffitt in the temple in Arnika for experience.

5 - Marten's Helm protects you from permanent sanity when holding one of the three items (I forget which one). It's also good head armor for your faerie, if you have one.

6 - If you visited the final temple that leads to the cosmic circle before all three items are placed you would notice that the stairs are cut away. Each item raises each third step. You are required to lift them all to ascend the stairs (pun intended).

9 - I have heard that he sells the Cane of Curpos - a kick-ass faerie ninja weapon. Also a holdover from Wiz7.

Thanks,
Pischle

You didn't explore the Wilderness Clearing, off of the Southeast Wilderness.

You mean the banner from the dying woman in Bayjin? You can return it to Brafit.

Uh, you sure you finished the game?

Yes.

Did you kill the Rattus outside Trynton (the one with the Zip gun) or the Don's consigliere?

I did. It's entirely mapped (according to the automap.) All I found of interest in the clearing was Rex. And I couldn't do anything with Rex. Are there TWO different 'clearings'? If so, that could be my problem.

Yes. With one of the 'good' endings. I had the helm, but couldn't figure out exactly why it might be needed.

Okey Dokey.

A problem I had with the game is that for some reason I encountered hostile monsters when potentially useful NPC's were nearby. Rattus was one of them. I encountered some crappy plants and bats on the road, and for some reason Rattus joined in the battle and died. I found the stuff from his body, but never got to talk to him. The same thing happened with the Trynnie-chief, and with the Rapax castle armor-master. For some reason, I get in a fight and they all come running to help me and die. I didn't get to talk to any of the three.

Perhaps this is why I still have questions about the game? I dunno.

1. Rex - Still a mystery
2. Rapax K & Q - The wilderness clearing tunrs into the Rapax away camp, once you trigger certain events (I think being initiated into the templars, others say it is dependant on the device(s) you have. Al-sedexus is not the Rapax Queen.
3. Sorceress Q - Someone can make stuff out of what you get from killing her.
4. Helazoid - Story line holdover from Wiz 7.
5. Martens helm - protects party from destinae dominus
6. Placing orbs - If you look carefully, you can see the Dark Savant standing there, making the sound you heard.
7. Missiles/Flamethrower - I think just there for those that like tech stuff.
8. Umpani flight deck - Yes, it is from T'rang quests.
9. Mafia Don - never saw any real use other than you had to get the AD from him somehow.
10. Silver nugget - can be used by someone to make an item

About the silver nugget.
There is a panel in Mt. Gigas that when you stand on it, it opens a secret door elsewhere in the map. When you move off the panel the door closes. The silver nugget is heavy enough to (when placed on the panel) keep the door open, although any heavy object should do.
I sold my silver nugget to Ann in Arnika for $50,000 (high communications skill & charming helped with the price), but I found no specific use for it either.
