"Killing Don Barlone..."

Has anyone ever killed Don Barlone BEFORE they got the Destinae Dominus from him? If you kill him what happens? Can you get the DD later or are you pretty much just screwed?

you get the Astral Dominae. It doesn't matter whether it's at your 1st meeting or not. However when ever you kill there is NO assurance that he will aslo drop the Cane Corpus.

I've started playing with my second party and am about to catch up with the Don (again).

Interestingly, with my first game, I pickpocketed the Don to get the Cane (didn't want to kill him and was only around level 8-9 at that stage, so too weak).

I then came back a number of times when I was stronger to see if killing him would drop another Cane, but this never happened, even though I tried 20 or 30 times. After the Don is killed, there should be a random drop which may include the Cane. However, the game seems to know that I already and the first Cane, and hence a second one was never forthcoming.

Has anyone ever managed to get two Canes??

(Going against the above theory, I did manage to get 2 Light Swords - one from the Buccaneers, one from the Bayjin chest).

It seems that when I meet the Don before I have the fake Astral Dominae, he says they have to get their hands on it first.

Q: If I kill him at this time, before I have the fake, am I going to find out he was lying all the time? And if so, why would he say he doesn't have it? He's going to sell it to me later anyway.

Seriously, does he have it, even before I have gotten the fake in the swamp?

Remember, this is a game. As such, it has a goal, and certain peices are required to realize that goal. If you are able to achieve (or just do) the unexpected and kill him on your first meeting, the game accounts for it, makes him a liar (which he already is) and presents you with what you need to continue.

Or he is just lying for some reason, like for the sake of lying ... for him it is perhaps good practice.

I have thought on this aspect of the game ... not lying, but what happens when character X gets killed before he has a chance to do Y?

If I were to write me own game, each of these things (like the acquisition of the real AD) would become an onus (something to do) or token (a physical object of importance). Whenever a character died bearing an onus, or carrying a token, another character would be chosen to bear it.

Say you kill Don and he didn't have the AD yet. It was supposed to get to him somehow ... so now the "delivery boy" keeps it. Or say Don ends up dying with it, but not at your hands ... natural causes. Then Milano would find it ... pick up the token.

It would be a lot more work, and would probably require some kind of factory (in Java terms) to create replacement characters. Otherwise, you could just kill everyone but Vi, anad she would end up with all the onus and tokens ... then they woudl be easy to find (right inside Phoonzang's statue

that makes sense however, I killed screg to get the chaos morali for the t'rang and now i can't get to bayjin b/c the umpani want me to talk to him... how does the game account for that? Secondly, to add to what some1 earlier posted about, i've stolen 2 raven's bills from different npc's, just as he had 2 light swords. But maybe the CoC is special since it can only be obtained in one place.

you can still get to Bayjin, but it will be somewhat uncomfortable because you cannot enter mount gigas because you can't get your special UTU training now. Remember, all missions are considered secondary and not critical to your goal, except for obtaining the three artifacts to place them on AP and of course disarming the savant tower (although the secondary missions give you nice EXP rewards)

I just played a solo FN and killed the Don before I got to the swamp.

I could not find the DS there and never got the fake AD.
