"How great is the chance for a critical hit?"
Posted by Richard (Guest) on Sep-04-03 at 00:00 AM
Yesterday, I red from another forum that the Samurai's chance for
a critical strike never exceeds 4%?! Is that true? This was the info:
"Critical Strike can't add more than 4% to your chance to insta-whack, so i usually leave this one to develop itself."
http://www.rpgdot.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=26261&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=critical+samurai&start=15
If this is true, then why do I put 3 points into the skill every level?

"Critical Strike can't add more than 44% to your chance to insta-whack, so i usually leave this one to develop itself."Who do you believe and why? My point is, where did this person get this information? It doesn't seem reasonable that taking a skill from 0-100 only siwngs the percent chance by 4%. Think about it ... if 100 points in Critical Strike only gains you a 4% chance to insta-kill, then what good is the single digit % you get with any weapon? Excaliber has 5% chance, so that is really 5/100 *.04 = .002 ... ? Unless Critical Strike (skill) and Kill % (of weapons) are factored differently.

... it was saying that the most that the Critical Strike skill would add is a 4% chance. Where is this 2% per level chance coming from that you are referring to, as a base Critical Strike chance? And more to the point, where does the original poster come up with 100 in the skill equals +4% chance?

I have 2 ninjas, 1 monk (2 if you incl RFS-81) and one samurai all around level 30 at Ascension Peak (we've taken the scenic route).Critical strike is 100 for all these characters, and we have the best weapons - 2 Light swords, Z Bo, Cane of Corpus. These weapons without a doubt add to my party's critical kill ability, but the 4% you quote seems very low. If it's based on strikes, this would be only one in 25%. My party, against some pretty tough monsters on AP (playing expert level), is probably getting one-two critical per rounds when they all attack with weapons.
I would imagine how high your party members senses would also be important.

Well, I guess it's still worth the points, though I think I'll
spend less points in the skill as it's increasing well on it's own (it's around 60-ish). I also see VERY few instant kills. In
fact, in my last long battle with a couple of Juggernauts, my
Samurai only made one instant kill, while my Ranger did two! And
he doesn't spend a single point in Critical Hits...Anyway, the Samurai is still a cool class

If you are referring to your Ranger getting insta-kills using a bow, the skill used for that is Ranged Combat.
