"A cheap way to get help from PeeWee"

Posted by rbrown on Aug-22-03 at 11:51 AM
I was walking toward Amat, expecting the usual pay-tribute routine when coincidence stepped in. Amat had two snakes in front of him, and there were 4 Adamant Unicorns in front of PeeWee. When I got close to the snakes, they and the unicorns went hostile. Amat was yellow and Peewee was green. We killed the snakes while PeeWee tried to hit the unicorns. Then we walked up to Amat (still yellow) and chopped him to pieces. PeeWee remained green and ineffective against the unicorns.

Apparently he only goes hostile when he is told to. If you can time your arrival with a group of monsters, you can get close to Amat without triggering the pay-tribute dialog. PeeWee was very effective against snakes and scorchers the rest of the evening, and useless against unicorns.

Yeah, I ran into a couple in the Mountain Retro dungeon. My first reaction was WTF? Did they really have those things in the old-time Wizardrys (pre-Bane)?

Oh no. Now I'm gonna start keeping an eye out for the "Armor of Lords". (Can I equip that if I'm not listed as "good")

BTW, since I'm here I'll ask. I've played Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord and remember when you could fight those Greater Demons for hours in one set-to, just don't kill the last one. Get tired? Finish the battle for lunch and level-up ten times in a row! Do we have any encounters like that in Wiz8?
