"Umpani Flag-Z'ant won't talk"

Posted by Kalias on Jul-13-03 at 08:12 PM
I got the Umpani Flag for Z'ant and returned but he won't talk to me or take the flag. He says "I have nothing to say to you" and I have no access to talk to him. When I try to give him the flag, he tells me to keep it. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

"Give vs. Use"

Have you tried taking the flag out of inventory, then (with that as your cursor) clicking on him? In some cases, you need to do this with items .. no clear reson or rule.

I was hoping that it was something simple like this. However, I tried doing use instead of give and got the same results. Z'Ant says, "It is better with you." "I have nothing to say to you." I checked my journal to be sure what it said. It says, "Aligned with T'Rang. Met Z'Ant. Get Umpani flag from Umpani Base." Any other ideas?

Are you also doing Umpani quests? If so, you need to pay off He'Li.

I wasn't aligned with anyone but T'Rang at the time I got stuck. I decided to go the other direction and align with Umpani also so I could continue. Since then I have gone to Arnika and paid off He'Li. At some point (can't remember if this was before I paid off He'Li) I returned to Z'Ant and I noticed that he wasn't friendly anymore. I can't remember the exact message, but it was the same answers I got previously. I was wondering if I should have tried Charm on him and if this would work? Right now I'm just ignorning this alliance and following the Umpani quests and am in the Sea Caves. Brother, Nessie was hard! I found a good reference to using canned elemenals and that did the trick. I'm assuming I can complete without Z'Ant quests?

And w/o the Umpani quests ... but if you forgoe both, you will have to kill some of one or the other to get an alliance letter at some point to use with another faction. The only "required" quest (and you don't even have to get the quest) is marten's idol. But you can even foregoe that one if you don't mind your entire party being insane (while you have one artifact). I suppose a single character party Psionic (or all Psionics) would take care of that problem.

Where did you get that Umpani flag? You didn't take it from the flagpole, did you? That's the wrong flag.

I bought the flag from the store in the Umpani Fort. I didn't realize there was another flag???

Right now I'm just ignoring the T'Rang and working on the Umpani quests. I've aligned with Umpani, paid off He'Li, taken the alliance letter back to Mooks, and am off on the Umpani quests in Bayjin after finishing the Sea Caves. At some point I guess I will have to confront Z'Ant again, but I guess it won't matter since I've switched sides.

That's where you're supposed to get the flag. I had heard before where someone got the flag from the flagpole and got the umpani all hostile. I don't know any other solutions to your problem--I always work both sides and pay off He'Li.

One you can buy, the other you steal from the flagpole (which I have never tried) which makes the Umpani angry ... I guess that would be wrong if you are trying to stay aligned with them.
