What am I to do with the statue of the Fish in the South East Wilderness? Did I miss something?

No one has ever found a purpose for it. I "felt up" the trees looking for runes, found nothing.There is a ring and potion on the low ground around it.

I put the pickled trynnie there and wasn't able to get it back but have no idea if it accomplished anything

.. to no effect. With all of the things that seem left out or half-done, there is almost enough for another game
