"extended weapon gadgeteer"

What extended weapon can a gadgeteer use? I'm into the game for a while and can't find any extended weapon for the gadgeteer. He has a sword, but it's rare when he uses it. He like to shoot away doing little damage.

Just did a quick search through the item database I found at:

http://www.geocities.com/wizardry_viii

and came up with the following:

Quarterstaff
Staff of Doom (cursed)
Crux of Crossing
Bonebasher Staff (cursed)
Staff of Ash
Flame Staff

You will have to uncurse after every battle to use the Staff of Doom or Bonebasher Staff with the Omnigun. I'm not sure where you can find these either.

I'll back up what has been said before regarding the gadgeteer.

1. Damage is dependent on ammo, so find the best ammo you can. You can't damage if you can't hit, penetrate, and use the weapon, so modern weapon, dexterity, speed, senses.

2. The Omnigun is their best weapon. It's not just the damage, it's all those status ailments, tweaks, and add-ons that develop over time. Keep checking the gun after level-ups. Add in all that engineering brings to the game and you have a real asset.

Remember what has been said so often on these boards: Damage isn't everything, it's what the opponent can do to you. Veterans will often note that magic users are most potent when they buff the party and disable the enemy. The G-man can deal damage and disable at the same time with a simple stone.

Don't lose faith in the little nerd, check out www.geocities.com/jandrall/Wizardry8/SpotlightGadgeteer1.htm
for more. Credit to AtlusSeven7 and Jandrall for the info and the site.

As for me, nine parties to the CC and only one lacked a Gadgeteer. Although I did use a certain Trynnie for a bit!

Last night my nerdy little hobbit cracks off a round and blinds a sorceress in the cemetary dungeon after the party is nearly dead from a summoned elemental. Then he proceeds to insta-kill the elemental. My samurai will buy him lunch for the next week!

Develop the GAD shooting and weapon skills and start kicking some butt. If there was enough ammo in the game to support 2 or 3 GAD's I would love to try that.

When having a gadgeteer in my party I always use a mook gadgeteer with the giant sword as an extended weapon

That would be good if a Gadgeteer could use the GS. IIRC, only FVLRS can use the GS.

oops that's right --- I use a mook ranger....I knew there was some reason I no longer use gadgeteers and their level one gadgets....

Another good upside to the gadgeteer is that after a certain level (10?) they can make triple shot crossbows for all the others that can use them. If you have 3 other characters with these bows, armed with the best ammo, and your gadgeteer with a Model 7 Omnigun, which can use any projectile ammo, you're looking at death at long range. Boost their attacks per round with a Haste spell, and you can keep fairly safe while mowing down your opponents. Gadgeteers are great!
