"downloading"
Posted by hippiemom (Guest) on Mar-12-03 at 10:05 AM
I'm new to all this. I wanted to download Wizardry 8, but it does not list my computer. I have Windows Me. Is there another way for me to get this download? I'm sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but I've looked everywhere and can't get an answer. If anyone could answer this for me, I'd really appreciate it.....

You can't download Wizardry 8. You can download the Wizardry 8 demo. To do this go to www.wizardry8.com and after you enter the site click on the icon marked download demo. the file is 142 meg and gives a good idea of what the game is like.

I just wanted to thank you for your response. I had forgotten to mention that it was the demo that I was trying to download. The system requirements didn't include Windows Me, so I was wondering if there was another way to get the download. But I just wanted to say thank you for responding to my question, and for your help.

I have been playing the demo and the full versions of Wiz 8 on an ME computer. I had some problems with out of date drivers that needed updating. It was still a little flakey on my 1 Gigahertz Athalon with 128 meg of ram but definately playable. When, I upped the memory to 512 and added a second harddrive for easier video editing it smoothed out a whole bunch.David

Please go out and buy the game instead of 'stealing' it. Many of us waited approximately 10 years for this to be completed and released and will continue to hope for the continuation of the series despite the makers demise. The more sales, the more chances of it's resurrection.

I'm not trying to 'steal' anything. I was asking about the demo. And for your information, I have quite a few games that I bought, I just don't know that much about downloading game demo's on the computer. That shows you just how often I 'steal' games. Thanks for your input, it really answered my question.

Certainly sounded to me like he was wanting to "steal" it. Don't know why he got all huffy. If he meant the demo he should have just said so. I'm just glad there are others out there who don't mind actually paying for games they like. My brother (the punk) tries games and if he likes them he makes copies which to me (and those who make them) is stealing.
By the way, same goes for music. If you like something enough to want to have it, pay for it so those who make it (engineers, studio musicians, not to mention the artist) can keep doing so.Sherrie (getting off my soapbox)
Haven't slept yet, why start now?!

Hey, take a chillpill. I didn't suggest an answer to your problem because I didn't have an answer. And read your own post again - it does look like you are trying to get the game without paying - you didn't say demo, did you?Have a nice day because I think you need some happiness in your life to have taken my response as badly as you did.

Man, we are fanatics aren't we
To answer your question about the download and Win ME, I think NT, 2000 and ME are all basically the same OS, so the download for any of those should work (I think).(after checking out the download options at fileplanet) ... I don't see where it says anything about the OS ... just go for it
p.s. Why hasn't anyone jumped alll over tbird100 for wanting to download wiz 7 yet?

NT & 2000 are based off the same kernel, but ME is actually different. It's still loosely based on DOS as is Win98 & Win95. Win98, Win95, & WinME are all based off a similiar, but different kernel.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-13-03 AT 02:03 AM (Pacific)but, Wizardry 8 is a Windows program using DirectX or OpenGL, and thus should work fine on NT/2000/XP
----------------------------------------------------------------
Q: What are the system requirements for Wizardry 8?
A: System requirements are: Windows 95 OSR2, 98, or 2000; a 233 MHz processor or better; 64 MB of RAM, a 3D accelerator with 8 MB of texture memory, 4x CD drive; soundcard and mouse.
----------------------------------------------------------------
of course, these specs were made when they first started on Wiz 8, way back in 1998. now Computers are powerful enough for a pure software driven mode.
Glide mode, is for 3dfx based video cards and Windows 95/98/ME, as it involves direct hardware access, which is banned by NT kernal, for stability (so, if 1 program crashes the video card, it doesn't crash your whole pc)

I am an Old Wiz fan when Wiz 1 was played on an apple.
I did buy Wiz 8 and had a hell of a time downloading to window xp
It seems that .dla files from other games gives this version of windows fits. I had to delete all other games my my new faster computer and then start out fresh. I had no other problem with wiz but I do have some problems with other games.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-15-03 AT 08:01 PM (Pacific)oh. you are one of those Mac folks who uses "download" instead of "Install", which explains a whole lot.
pherhaps Hippiemom is/was a MAC user, and didn't realize Downloading, means through internet.

well I wasn't aware that wiz 7 wasn't shareware yet (it's been a long time since I actually played it lol). If I could find a place to buy that game again I probably would, but I don't think I could find it anywhere lol.

Usually listed on EBay as 'Ultimate Wizardry Archives' (contains all previous 7 games) and fairly cheap from what I understand (approx. $15?)

cool I'll definitely have to go check that out....as long as we're on the subject...what exactly is wizardry gold?
"RE: It is on eBay a lot n/t"

Wiz Gold is nearly the same game as Wiz 7 ( same maps, quests, persons and so forth ). The only differences are:
1. Wiz 7 is made for DOS, Wiz Gold for Win 95
2. different grahpic ( And I think most people like the graphic of Wiz 7 more then the graphic of Wiz Gold ).Mike

3) diplomacy is useless. to befreind an NPC, and see his/her wares, you still need to do some things for the head honcho of them. e.g. to peace with D'Rang T'Rang, you need to talk to H'Jenn Ra in Nyctalynth, and follow his/her orders
4) automap appears in a small window on top of the Wizardry Gold window, press F5 to hide/show it (use the map kit if it doesn't show)

Diplomacy bug - it made the game hell for me for while. Couldn't get the map needed to enter final stage as a result of it. Finally found a way around it though (by reading something on one of these boards). I was stuck because Barlone (recognize the name?) had the map and wouldn't talk to me, kept kicking me out of his hangout. Finally, I saved just in front of the door, exited game, loaded up Crusaders (was veerryy slow), entered hideout and talked to him. Diplomacy skill worked so I was able to get the map and loot his many chests of ill-begotten goods. As soon as conversation ended I saved, exited game and loaded up savefile into Gold and continued.
But for sure, except for that lousy diplomacy bug, Gold was better to play than Crusaders.

it is much easier to start, and does include vocal hints, as well.
It also is the sole version of Wiz 7 that I have.

Leave poor hippiemom alone. She did say "does not list my computer" which implies to anyone who thinks about it that it from a genuine site, ie unlikely to be a pirate site.
How big is the full game anyway ? 1.7GB plus, need to be keen to want to download that. It would be cheaper to buy the game in a shop than pay the download fees.
Hippiemom did quickly clarify that she was after the demo only, but no not good enough for some, she had already condemned herself.
Get a life and get some tolerence whilst you are at.

I WILL continue to defend myself and what I posted - simply because she DID NOT SAY SHE WANTED THE DEMO and Jonno, you say she quickly clarified herself - well look at the times of the posts. She did not do this until after I KINDLY & POLITELY requested she purchase it. I'm sorry I'm not computer savvy enough to have figured out that {I quote you} - "does not list my computer" which implies to anyone who thinks about it that it from a genuine site, ie unlikely to be a pirate site.
And by the way - we left poor hippiemom alone a long time ago - the majority of this thread has ended being about computers and previous Wiz games.
You have a nice day now and buh-by

I think Jonno was referring to quickly as in order of posts not time.Maybe Hippiemom and others and certainly not me do not spend all our time monitoring the board for a reply.
You condemn people very easily Mr Woolley
"RE: Jumping the Gun"
Posted by Whoolley (Guest) on Mar-15-03 at 05:03 PM
Please re-read my posts. I think you misunderstand as badly as Jonno seemed to. I don't believe I condemned anyone. Most of my responses to this thread have to do with Wiz7/Crusaders, not the origin of the thread. And if I was condemning or being harsh in my view, would I have used politeness and words like please? I know how to swear 'like a sailor' but choose not to, believing that one treats others the way they want to be treated themselves. The unfortunate thing about the written word is that one can place their own meaning and depth of feeling behind what they read but it doesn't always match that of the writer.

It ws a simple mistake ... the forum (or any adhoc electronic written media) can easily be taken the wrong way ...After enough times or getting to taste my own toe jam (i.e. sticking my foot in my mouth
) I apparently have learned to clarify, before going off on someone (or at least I did on this thread)
