"Offhand Swords"

Posted by Myshel (Guest) on Mar-11-03 at 10:22 PM
I've searched high and low, but I haven't yet found an off-hand sword for my fighter. I'm almost to the end of the game. Have I screwed up, or just been unlucky? I've got sword maxed, and duel wield up to the 70's, but I'm now just throwing points at mace because I've nothing else to spend them on. But what I really want is to have my fighter with two swords in hand. Any help is appreciated.

you can't find one, as there are no offhand swords available for fighters. only 2 offhand swords in the entire game, but only for Samurai and Ninjas, Wakazashi and Enchanted Wakazashi (makes sense, though, for Samurai 25% Sword bonus)
dual wield is still good, though, it just means you have to work harder on that offhand weapon's skill (instead of only sword skill, now it's sword + dagger, for example)
for Mace & Flail, a basic hammer will help with practice, until the Diamond eyes can be had.
a ton of offhand daggers, though, which is a popular method of doing that.

the sole offhand sword for most fighters/thieves/bards in Wiz 7, a baselard, is now a dagger. a long dagger, but a dagger nonetheless, in Wiz8.
dual wielding in Wiz 8 isn't as tremendously powerful as it was in 7. no bec de corbin, so your fighter will more likely be using a shield, and when you finally get the good stuff, it will take a bit longer to build DW and those weapon skills

the best off hand weapon I've found for my fighter is a serpent's tooth (I think I found it in the sea caves). it does 3-13 damage, +2 hit, +3 initiative, poisons 60% (str 0), and gives dagger +10 attribute. My fighter at level 21 berserks with it from 20-40 damage a hit with it. I got the fang equipped in primary, together the two do a remarkable lot of damage!

I have only found it once, that was a random drop in Ascension Peak, I think fighting some variety of scorchers. It is race-limited to only Lizardman and Dracon (IIRC).

oh yeah, I forgot about that. I think what dropped it though might have been one of those flying snake things, or a seeker type creature. I guess if it's that rare than I got pretty lucky huh? hehe. (if only I could have gotten that lucky with the light sword lol).

Here is another conspiracy theory ... maybe they look at your inventory and based on whether or not (or how many) "super" items you currently have, your chances of getting another are "affected". So, if you already got the Ecalibur, you're chances of getting the Light sword would be diminished ... just another conspiracy theory, not much thought behind it (though it sounds like a good idea )

I like the conspiracy theory that goes: 'Is Nomad playing this game? Yes. Give him nothing that is any good.'

Doesn't sound like the theory I would want
