I apologize if this question has already been posted. I have the flamequencher wand but cannot use it on the flaming cage. I have tried everyone in my party but nobody seems to be able to use it. Can anyone please tell me what needs to be done before I lose my sanity?

Find the lock, enter into inventory mode, select the wand, exit inventory mode and the just put the wand into the lock.
There are a few things you can not 'use' like you would think.
