I am fairly new to Wizardry 8. I have played it for a month and am on my 3rd party and I think that I might actually finish this time because I like my party... finally. It is a Hogwarts party
Hagrid: Fighter
Filch: Rogue
Dumbledore: Priest
Snape: Alchemist
Trelawney: Psionic
McGonagall: Mage
I just love using magic... but anyway on to my questions. My Fighter and Rogue currently can dish out large amounts of damage (at level 11), but most monsters die before they are within range. For my rogue I am using Bloodlust for primary and Thieves dagger as secondary. It seems to work very well, but I miss not having ranged attacks since they are both cursed.
What weapons would you recommend for the Rogue? As far as close combat damage, bloodlust/thieves dagger seem to work awesome. Will I get more opportunities for close combat later in the game? I never waste time moving during combat. My magic users are great at ranged combat and my fighter does ok with a bow, so I prefer to keep them from getting close... but that means my rogue just sits and watches.
In the early game, the Fighter and Rogue were lifesavers because I didn't have enough magic to kill everything and the mage and psionic could die with 2-3 hits.
Another question is, where can I find spiders to fight? I remember getting spider silk before in past games, but now I can't find spiders anywhere... or any iron weeds for that matter.
My last question is, is there any good armor for the Psionic? It seems she is just as limited as the mage, but unlike my mage, she is not a faerie so she won't be able to wear the armor from Antone.
Thanks in advance for any advice. This game is awesome.
I don't know what woudl be a good rogue weapon, aside from bloodlust, aside from the light sword (odds are against gettign that). Another option is to have your rouge use powders adn potions. Although his sticky fingers are stuck to hiw weapons, apparently through his awesome dexterity, he can flick these powders and potions with the tip of a dagger or sword
There are some set spider encounters in Trynton ... I don't recall if the spiders you encounter in My. Gigas give up the silks ... I don't think so.
No armor for psionics ... just the better robes (hard to come by) , which makes a case for going Monk in stead of Psionic (for the stealth, giving natural AC reduction)

Good advice. I almost never use powders or potions because it seemed like my magic could do a better job using magic. Now that my rogue is set for close combat, I think I'll stock his inventory with all the powders instead of selling them.

I am in Trynton now, and I finally encountered some iron weeds... no spider encounters yet, but now that I know that Trynton is the right place I'll stick around for a while before giving up and moving on.

I really love the Psionic spells though. I might switch to a monk after level 18 (when I have learned level 7 spells and my psionics and mental skills are at 100). In the meantime, I think I'll just move my psionic to the middle after I find spider silk to get my mage better armor. Now I need to look for some good robes I guess.
