"Party Killers!"

I was wondering whether anyone has had horrible experiences with the computer sending super-powerful monsters after their party? I had just gotten the light sword and was doing very well, when all of a sudden I met a creature I had not met in my previous games: a brother ray. This creature killed my entire party in 3 rounds!

Then another time I had a superpowerful all spellcaster party that was doing amazingly well, just one death of one character all the way up to the 15th level on expert. Then I went to fight Nessie, and on my way there I fought some inky squids, I killed them easily, though some of my characters were blinded. But before I could even cure them, another group of creatures quickly appeared to fight me. 2 psi sharks and 2 omega sharks. I had met psi sharks before, they were tough for spell casters, but managable, but the omega sharks were MONSTERS!!! I fought them for almost half an hour using every one of my resources, hell one of my characters died several times in this one battle alone!!! Even when I had killed one and reduced another to several hit points, the creature just refused to die, almost like I was supposed to have lost the battle!

I have had several other instances where it seemed like the computer was sending very powerful creatures out to specifically
terminate my party, usually after I got a very powerful item, or was doing very well. Has anyone else had this kind of experience?

Many people seem to encounter unusually high level savant forces in Arnika, when their party may still be fairly low (or very low comparatively).
