Doesn't anyone else besides me find the Dark Savant hard to kill. He casts really damaging spells even with Magic Screen and Element I take a lot of damage. His melee attacks are also powerful and I have a hard time damaging him. Why do some people think he is easy to kill???

It makes a lot of difference on what class/race combo you have, plus how you developed them, plus how you have them equipped. There are a lot of variables. I have never found it hard to kill him in the three parties I have ascended with.

Composition and level ... in my first attempts (racing as fast as I could to the end) the battle could take up to 45 minuntes ... and I could still lose. In those days, about the only thing I could even scratch him with was missile weapons. Now, with better prepared parties, I can take him down in a short order (something like 5 rounds I think is my best).

On my last trip I got really lucky, my Alchemist paralized him with a Meduda Stone in the second round. He didn't last long after that.
