"light sword problems"

Posted by Tenshi (Guest) on Feb-04-03 at 10:08 AM
This is prolly beating a dead dog (figuratively of course), but I was wondering if there was an easier way to get the Light Sword. I've entered Bayjin from the swamp and scaled the mountain (easier and faster, with less fights than going around) and into the single sentry hut only to constently find VapoRizers and a score of other potions, books, naganatas, and once a fronter phaser. I've done this prolly about 12 times, and my patients is wearing out. I also want to know if Davey Jones locker is set on entry or is it random as you open it? If anyone knows an easy way to get the light sword or has any idea on if I'm doing something wrong please let me know. Thanks ahead of time.

I always enter Bayjin from the Nessie side. I run down the causeway, "encounter" the guard in the temple, then wait for sentries and crabs to move out of the way. Then I run straight for the single sentry hut. Two battles minimum but it only takes 5-10 minutes per try. I usually give up on the light sword after 20 tries. I also save game if I get a light shield or frontier phaser, then keep trying with the original save. Jan-Ette will also drop a light shield but you don't need to reload from outside Bayjin, just save before you speak to her.

Davy Jones Locker is set when you first enter Bayjin Shallows. If Nessie is easy that day I will try her a few times, otherwise I just take what I can get. The Ring of Regeneration is good and frequent.

Does that mean that clearing the area of monsters then re-entering to fight only the random spawns and get to the chest is useless?

Yup. My usual sequence is ...

1) save in Mt Gigas Water Caves
2) enter shallows for the "first" time and kill Nessie.
3) save under a temporary name
4) open DJL
5) if disappointed, reload regular save and go to 2)
6) if I get good stuff but the trap causes major problems, reload the temp save and go to 4)

Sometimes you get it on the first try ... sometimes not even after 100. Some theorize it may be affected by your party composition ...

Party composition is (may not seem good but is fun) 2 ninjas, samurai, 2 monks and a bishop. The monks act as back up healers and with their high speed they get off the heals at the start of each round, the samurai has bloodlust right now, and the ninjas are assassins at range and up close. The only danger I really face is when my party goes insane, its never fun watching your own characters insta-kill their friends. I put in another 10 shots. Ganna try a few more times. Got the light shield twice now but since I can still get that from Jan-ette I don't want to really settle for it here. Thanks again for the info though. Looks like I will keep trying.

If you have a faerie ninja, then the Light Sword is the SECOND best weapon in the game. The Cane of Corpus is most likely the best race/class specific weapon in the game. The Zatochi Staff or Fang would closely follow. The Staff of Doom is also a good choice. Any of these other weapons will more than see your party thru the adventure. Good luck and game on.
