"Longest Battles?"

I'm having some serious issues fighting the buccaneer ghosts in Bayjin Shallows.
They're almost impossible to hit, even with "to hit +8", on the other hand, they're completely unable to do any serious damage against me either. (Vi + my 6 chars are all at level 12)

I finally beat them in round 75 of fighting... anyone completed a battle significantly longer than this one?

LOL! Not I. . . That battle took me about as long as you.

That battle took awhile for me too.
I just kept using cone spells on them,

whipping rocks worked good for me.

I had a considerably long battle with some Juggernauts,
earlier in the game,

I was going back to Arnika after my first trip to Trynton
and ran into some of them at this point my chars were around level 9-10.

I baricaded myself in a corner and kept casting blind flash
and eventually killed them, real-time the battle took 45 mins.

And what really sucks about the Juggernauts is you get little or no exp from them.

Most of the time I just avoid them now even though I can beat them pretty easily now. I do sometimes fight them now they are really just punching bags, good for improving fighting skills.

Practice is good, though.

Spent most of yesterday and last night on a LONG trek: from Trynton (finally finishing the Idol quest and whacking Barlone) up to the Umpani base, completing all the training missions there, THEN all the way back to Marten's Bluff to work on the T'rang missions. On foot; while I have a portal set in Marten's Bluff, that character didn't have the Return spell (learned the Set from a spellbook), and I forgot to get it during a level-up.

While it was long, it wasn't wasted. Completing the idol quest gave me 2 VERY nice spears (Spear of Death and Mystic Spear), so my ranger started using the MS as his melee weapon. Picked up about 20 points there. Some other fights, like 2 rank weeds plus 7 crimson poppies, that can run into several rounds but have very little risk to them, let my spellcasters practice, and let my rogue, who uses cursed melee weapons, practice with various bombs, powders, and scrolls which I've been toting around for far too long.

One thing that you might consider doing is setting a return port in

poss spoiler

marten's bluff, where the t'rang teleporter is. You cant get close to four ideal locations *early in the game* by setting a port here, and then using the teleporter to get there. works extremely well if you can cast set/return port w/ two chars: one to teleporter room, one to the most advanced part of the game. This accomplishes two things, one is less worthwhile. You can shoplift all you want, and then port back, sell the shoplifted stuff if you need money, and then use your other char's spell to get back to the shoplifting/pickpocketing spot. good way to make money. A better reason is that the outpost makes a great treasure room. back to EOB 1 here tho

I was going to do that last night, but forgot... Even started the night in MB. Goofed off for a while, after finishing the last T'Rang quest before returning to the Mook...saved the game, and said, hey, let's find out how tough the T'rang are.....

That was lots of fun, until I tried to fight Z'Ant.....

That's when I reloaded, and headed back...forgetting the teleporter. <sigh> But I do have a portal set at the hatch, in the back, at least for now.

I'll probably go back there, planning a little better, and wipe em all out...and for some SERIOUS trouble, try to wipe out the Umpani when I follow the T'rang alliance path...

Well, I kinda removed my chance to chat w/ Z'ant becuase I could not for the life of me find him. I wandered throughout the entire place, excluding one somewhat important place. Didn't find him until I had killed the guys who told me that I was not allowed beyond a certain point, which I assumed was where Z'ant was. The fight w/ Z'ant was pretty interesting, considering that it was fought through a window. Imagine trying to swing a sword, thrust a polearm, and so on through a window.

Had one in the Monastary that went 105 rounds fighting one group and then running into another.

In Rapax away camp, I started a fight with the 2 guys outside of the kings tent as a "diversion". I ended up going through 4 or 5 summoned elementals from my M-User and when it was all done I had gained just over 300,000 xps! Hehe, it took me 4 tries before I found just the right strategy to get them all.

My battle with ghosts is always fairly short due to the fact my imported bard brought along her cornu of demonspawn. Just 3 rounds of blowing that horn and having someone cast stamina on her and they're all dead.

Don't get mad at me, but I think I downed them in 1-2 rounds (had no problem with 'em whatsover). Then again, my 2 spellcasters both cast banish at them. That spell works wonders.

I haven't had any battles that lasted more than about 15 rounds. It might be because I took extra time on the road, early in the game, so was at about level 15/16 when I entered the Shallows. Or, maybe it's the Enchanted Blade that I always keep active and Bless that my Bard plays in combat. At any rate, the buccaneer ghosts only took me a couple of rounds, in fact my "beserk" fighter took a couple of them out in one attack.

Wait, I did have one battle that lasted a long time. I was in the Umpani area fighting a queen ant and 7 ants. The problem was about 40 Umpani were helping me so I couldn't even get close. I just left it on automatic and ate dinner, I don't know how many rounds it took those clutzes to finish them off but at least half of them spent their time "fleeing for their life."

I've run into them being level level 12-13 (just runned through all sea caves with ZERO encounters(5 on the way back)). While they are magically strong my fighter deaaled 60-100 damage every round if he wasn't afraid. So casting Remove Lesser Condition avery Round really helps!
But they are still tough. After finishing them all Ranij (or whatsever they are called) at Shallows were not a problem

BTW: is there any method to speed up combat animation further?

With best regards.

Oh no, looks like I ran into a potentially tough battle on ascension peak now. Ran into a guardian of life plus 5 oak guardians (all level 35+ monsters). I'm scared. hehe I better go start and (hopefully) survive that fight.

What a disappointment! It only lasted 9 rounds I did net like 700k-900k xp though (split amongst 8 members)

How about 6 level 12-13 characters (and one level 9 Major Fire elemental added in sometime around round 10) against one level 21 Adamantium slime (364 hit points)?

Talk about your stalemates ... with my gadgeteer throwing guardian angels, my bard playing heal all, the elemental always hitting for no damage, the slime with 904 stamina ... about the only time I did more than 1-2 points of damage per round was when it fell asleep

79 rounds later, 47K exp

Was it one of those Adamantium slimes? Those things are bloody annoying. I think I only killed one the old fashioned way. The rest I managed to get a critical hit on, thankfully.

I've had one battle last well into the 200s in the bayjin during a *Light* *Sword* attempt. I was in the hut with a bunch of crabs outside. They didn't retreat and I didn't go out (mainly coz I was curious.) Just left the thing on continous and it just kept on going and going. Eventually, (after watching a movie,) I shifted position slightly and they retreated. Weird. It'd be interesting to see how high the round can go before the game crashes (16 bit unsigned? 65000+ rounds?)
