"Elementals"

Posted by Groove (Guest) on Oct-02-02 at 02:09 AM
I'm on my first time through and I just came to Trynton, hit level 11 with my mage and got the Summon Elemental spell. The problem is that whenever I try summoning it in combat (e.g. in Don's house etc.), nothing happens and I just get the error 'plink' sound. Am I doing something wrong or is there just not enough room to summon one? Thanks.

I believe that is a Divine spell, in the Wizardry Spellbook
what's happening, is that this spell is failing.
all spells will fail, fizzle, or backfire, if your spell realm skill and Study skills are not high enough.
check your stats, go into the Magic listing stat screen (or overall stats) and check your Divine Magic and Wizardry stats.
to prevent spells from failing, practise them.
since Summon Elemental is a divine spell, practise it, and other Divine spells, like Magic Missile, until your Divine magic and Wizardry are a bit higher.
also, if you cast a spell, any spell, at a lower power level, it has a better chance of succeeding without incident.
if Summon elemental is not a Divine realm spell, use the other spells in that realm instead of Magic Missile.

You are only as brave as the challenges you take on

The 'plink' sound while you are trying to position your elemental does mean that you can not case that high a level at that location. If I remember right, you can only cast a level 2 or 3 elemental indoors. for the don, use canned elementals, they do not have the restriction.

If you're in an environment with low ceilings, you'll notice that you can't place a high level elemental in the room, but a lesser elemental will fit just fine.

I killed Barlone easily with a Death Bomb(?) that I bought from him. The Death Cloud took effect right on the first turn and killed him.

Since no one mentioned it, make sure you have the skill level to cast the spell. Meaning the spell level you are trying to cast is in green. It's probably not the problem but just thought it might help.

Thanks for the quick reply, guys.
Anyway, I managed to kill the Don without an elemental afterall -I just cast razor cloak and guardian angel on my samurai and watched the show.
And guess what - the good Don dropped the CoC for Falling Blossom, my Faerie ninja! Now she really rocks!
