"Weird (bug?) with Book of Portals"

Posted by nichg on Nov-18-01 at 05:05 PM
When you learn the set portal spell, you automatically get return to portal if you do it with a level up. I used Book of Portals instead for my mage, and she only learned set portal (which is sort of useless alone )

Is this a bug, is there a book of returning, what? I can wait to learn the spell for a little while (I want to set the portal in Arnika, but I can complete another area first), but still, it'd be nice to know if I can save the pick somehow.

And it is not useless .... you just have to know where you want your portal set (and know you can't come back to it till you pick the corresponding spell or find the matching book (if there is one).

One by the hogar in the wilderness, the other I think in Trynton.

Question: if you have two casters who know both spells, can you set multiple portals? This seems essential with the long distances between quest spots.

Two Portals: Yes. The each caster can set his/her own portal and then the caster's return will take the party to that portal.

So a caster can set one portale where ever he/she would like? And if a new place is better, set a new portal any time... the old one is no longer there?

It is even nice enough to warn you if you are replacing a previously set portal. My advice, once you cast one, save a game with that characters name and the location, or write it down some where. I was continually forgetting where each of my casters had their portals set.

Can you tell me the specific locations if you remember? I think I got the one in Trynton, but the only 'hogar in the wilderness' I can think of is the one on the road to Arnika up north near the 'northern wilderness', and it just dropped a tusk. I've scouted out the nearby cave already, but am I missing something?

That hogar is a wuss compared to this charger. That's why when in Trynton, and you see hogars coded yellow (neutral disposition) - it's best not to stand in their way!

It's quite a trek (exp. considering these waypoint voyages are what you're trying to avoid with that spell), but there's a good set of pipes there too. You're also in luck because it's one of the few locations I bothered to annotate on my maps - check it out in my sig link...

Click on the pedestal of Pzoon-whatever's statue - you'll get a key to open a room containing a machine that can do it.

Actually, I found it just now
Great, now I'll just level my bishop up once and if he can't learn it then, I'll break down and give it to my mage

Anyways, I didn't get summon elemental yet, but I've seen it in action by a pair of Cultists who keep zapping my party. Thats a nasty spell to fight against, and why do they call minor elementals: level 4 (Puny)?!

tougher elementals :? Don't worry, you will when you meet better cultists and other casters.

What I meant is that the difficulty rating is really.. well, way off, wrong, etc I'd say that a single lesser earth\fire\etc is the equivalent of a fight with a Hogar or Battering Hogar at least, maybe more like a Hogar with support from a Juggernaut or two (as if they ever come in sets that small )
