"Ratt breaders"

Posted by Sam (Guest) on May-10-02 at 07:41 AM
My party are all level 9. I have tried to kill the 2 ratt breaders and the 3 archers but to no avail. most of the time, after one round, one of my characters die.
I wonder how most of the advance players in this room killed the breaders?

Before I start I don't Know how you party is comprised od so any advice will be generic.

1) Before you open the duur to the breeders room have the following enhancement spells in place. Enchanted Blade, Armorplate, Missle Shield, Magic Shield.

2) Open the door and stand in the doorway. This limits the amount of breeders that can come at you at once.

3) Have priest cast Bless and spellcasters disabling spells. Noxious Fumes, Blinding Flash, Web, Freeze Flesh, Sleep, Terror.

4) Fighters in front and sides Magic users middle and back.

5) last resort retreat to Dons house and let him do some of the work Ratts have no loyalty to each other if they did they wouldn't be Ratts.

Check how close your players are to a levelup. Wander around outside and kill wasps for a while, then try again.

I usually use Insanity on the archers and blinding flash on the breeders. I also visit them after getting the good spears from the "blue marble temple" armory.

Killing the breeders has never been too difficult. Getting past their boyfriends afterward is the hard part.

Paralyze, Web, duct tape, etc.

Basically, save the game just before entering. Use any and every spell or item you have to paralyze the breeders. Ignore the archers; all the archers combined don't do as much damage as those two big bad mamas. Target everything you've got on the breeders while they're paralyzed/unconcious/immobilized/etc.

Also, make sure you use all the boost spells you can, before and during combat. Anyone who can't cast a web, paralyze, freeze, etc shoudl toss uspermans and elemnet sheilds and so forth on the party.

Although, I believe I was closer to 11th or 12th level by the time I got to the breeders. You might want to run around a bit and get more xp. Can't say for sure, though.

It really helps if you can cast insanity (or especially turncoat, but probably not at your level), so they fight each other instead of you.

Other than that, bring in an elemental or two (cast it behind them if you can). If you do it right, you shoudl be able to fight them one at a time, as both of them can't fit through the door at the same time. Then, it is (as you know) just a matter of keepoing your front line (and those in extended range) alive long enough.

I have a fighter, samurai, ranger, rouge, bishop and priest. All are on level 9

I dont have any of those magical weapons yet. Still using the ordinary swords, daggers, slings, bows and crossbows. Am I underpowered? Should I come back later to the breeders? Sould I visit the swamp first?

Last Question. Where can I find the shaman? All clues told me he is at the 6th bough. Still has two doors that need special items to open. One is a normal door while the ther looks like a wooden jail cell that divides the room into two. What items do I need and where do I find them?

THANKS

I am playing my second time through right now(actually I didn't finish the first game because I didn't like my party composition but I was about 80% throught it I estimate and way past the breeders).I just now beat the breeders with a party of level 8's and with no insanity(still haven't gotten around to the "siren's wail" because I can't remember where I found it the first time) using only flash powder, fairie dust(on the archers),dessication dust(got some from Madras and some from a chest),and my bard(Saxx the Umpani) playing poet's lute, snare of delay, angel's tongue(at the beginning of fight). My ninja, samurai, and ranger have been monsters with the critiKILLs though this game and IIRC my ninja took out a breeder with a shuriken(though I could be wrong...he has killed so many big guys with low damage thrown weapons this game that I lose track).
Like everyone said...block the door, concentrate damage on the breeder in front of you and have others(bard, casters) try and "sleep" the archers and paralise the breeder(s).

Cast missle shield before you go in and when you're in cast freeze flesh or paralyze (depending on which one you've got) It'll help but it still took me 8 or 9 tries to get past it

My very first time through the game I had LOADS of trouble with the Breeders. I must've reloaded a dozen times before I developed a strategy of retreating to Don's house to let Don and Milano take them down for me.

My second time through the game I had a bard in my party. First round, I had my bard play her Siren's Wail horn and made both of the Breeders insane. Second round, I had her play the Siren's Wail again and made the archers insane. Then all I had to do was sit back and laugh at them as they all chopped each other to pieces

I noticed my common rattkin rating decreased after killing the archers- Has anone killed the breeders, ran from the archers and kept friendly relations with the common ratts?

I just finished the game and hav friendly relations with everyone except the "Rattkin Common"
To stay friendly with the Rapax, I ran past the big battle with the Rapax prince on ascention peak.

I actually just did this on my first time thru the game...

I had to do it a few times but the water spell Frost whatever that freezes groups of mobs was crucial to me winning. Most my characters where level 8-9 and I even have a few gimps...damn engineer~

But I cast freeze on the breeders and sleep or insanity on the archers and my samuri and fighter really beat them up good.
