"searching for two retro dungeons..."

Posted by Gladius on Apr-15-02 at 07:35 AM
Hi there!

Well, I´ve gone through the dungeon behind the gravyard wall, but I know there are two other retro dungeons around, one of them in the northern wilderness(?).
Please, can anybody give me a hint about the locations?
And are there any special things to do in order to open them up(like touching runes and putting a dagger and so on...)?

There are six runes in each case. You will need a short staff
for the Northern Wilderness and a long sword for the Mountain
Wilderness. The runes are easy to spot in the Mountain Wilds
since they are on a circle of stones. You need to touch them
in a certain order, but trial and error will suffice. When
done thrust the sword into the central stone (Arthur will collect it later) and proceed to the mushroom patch.
Monsters here are lvl 20+. Beware of Nebdar!

Finding the six runes in the Northern Wilds is a pain in the
butt since they are scattered throughout the region. Start with
the small island to the east and proceed west from there.
The staff is used on a rock just west of the last runes.

Good luck!

I found out about the retro dungeons from reading the board. But how are you supposed to know about them? And how do you know what item to use where?
Is there a hint somewhere in the game? (I haven't finished it yet, but I'm nearly there)

You aren't supposed to know about them. They are "easter eggs", so without soemone telling you, it is nearly impossible to figure them out.

Which raises the question how did anyone find out when Wiz 8 was first released.

Sir-Tech leak it ?

I suppose designers and/or testers have spread the secrets...
As you say, I can´t imagine that anyone can uncover the procedure of discovering such a dungeon all alone.
BTW, I´ve just finished all three dungeons...Nebdar was not really a match for my level 21 party, he he...

Possibly, other possibility is either information from "other" sources who might have been given it by Sir-tech directly.

I've been poking around behind the graveyard wall (I assume you mean the graveyard off the Arnika-Trynton Road), and can't seem to find any entrance to the dungeon mentioned above. A subtle (or not so subtle) hint would be appreciated here. Thanks.

Six runes, gravestones, a dagger. 'Nuff said (or if not... post again);)

Ok i've found and pushed all 6 runes in the northern wilderness. I have a short staff {I purchased it in Arnika). I've found the stones (they glow a sort of pinkish). But it refuses to except the short staff, in fact it will not even accept that said staff exists. I've even passed it around amoungst my characters and it does not show up in their personal inventories when I attempt a use command. What is going on? over.

Pick the staff up with your cursor, exit the inventory screen,
click on the appropriate stone - voila!
