"Bayjin Light Sword"

Posted by Sundance (Guest) on Apr-13-02 at 11:55 PM
I'm trying to locate the Light Sword in Bayjin. I just spent three days wandering through there killing everything. I search all the huts and only found 1 chest, which there wasn't anything reasonably good in it. I aslo went through 7 bags of Resurrection powder. Which hut is the the sword supposed to be in if it does spawn?

Sundance

FYI I'm around lvl 13-14

Mate, its a random item in the chest on the beach I think.

The bucaneer ghosts may also drop it.

You will need to re-enter the Bayjin map (reload a save game) to reset the chest contents if you really want it.

Since there's a search function in the software, and the same question comes up twice a day, one might begin to wonder if any newbie ever pauses to ask what might happen if he used the Search. But no.

... we are only at 163 MB used of 500 available (it tends to go up pretty slowly, like a few MB per month at most).

But it would be nice if people would do a bit of research first. I would suggest a FAQ, but they have been done and most people tend to just ask, knowing that there are kind souls out there who will answer.

at the top of the first page with links, tips, and hints on certain questions that everyone seems to ask?

If nothing else, something like that which has a subject of those questions and a message body with links in it to various older threads that would answer that question would solve a lot of the problems like this.

If the BBS software would support a sticky thread, it might be worth the effort to set it up, especially if we all help out in getting it up and running by doing a few questions apiece.

All it would take is picking a question, making that the subject of our post, opening a second window to the forum and doing a search on that subject and checking out the answers received, and then cutting and pasting the good results to the body of our post as well as any other tips we wish to give on that subject.

If we each do a few of those, we could have a good resource available in a very short period of time and not have to deal with all of the redundant posts...or at least not as many.

<set cynical on>
but little better than a FAQ. It would require people to actually look for the answer, rather than just ask someone to provide it.

And this board software doesn't support that feature (unless it is in the latest version, which I haven't installed).

At some point though, it might be a good idea to add another forum, for those reoccurring questions. Organizing them into a useful list and format is the hard part.

so searching here means risking reading unrelated stuff you didn't want spoilt. Like you search for Light Sword and end up reading a thread also discussing other uber weapons.

... you takes your chances That does make an arguement tfor not having FAQs and walkthroughs adn using the "create a new message even though the thread may already be done" technique.

You can ask for a hint, without blundering into spoilers.

I did search, the sword is talked about alot. But nobody says exactly which chest it is in. All they say is that its a great sword and it took them 62 reloads to get it.

I think it is in the hut nearest where you find the scuba gear. It should be obvious once you once it, since it should be the only chest around there that yields a good-great item. I think it is fixed, so you always get something of decent value, like a vaporizer, a light shiled, light sword, ...

There is another crashed ship on the beach a short hike from the
huts. There is a chest in the wreck which has a chance to contain theLight Sword. It is guarded by Bayjin ghosts, so they might drop one as well. I found a Light Shield in the chest my first time through, but no sword. I read a post where someone had the persistence to get *multiple* Light Swords using the Bayjin Ghosts by - killing one or two, checking drops for the sword, and reloading if necessary. He must have been at it for months...

Actually, those were the Buccaneer ghosts underwater on the way to Bayjin that have a chance of dropping the sword when they die. I was one of those who managed to get 4 swords from them the first time through the game and it took me less than 50 reloads to do it, as I recall. I've not bothered on my second and third times through though -- there are enough good swords out there that are fixed that spending the time trying for the light sword I felt was counterproductive.

Now, I -have- done multiple reloads to get my hands on two light shields, which I consider to be much more valuable than the swords (useable by more classes/races, lighter than all other shields, more protection) but those items were both received in Bayjin -- one from the chest and the other from Jan-ette. I have averaged reloading about 25-30 times to get each shield.

Now if the buccaneer ghosts dropped light shields, I'd probably spend as much time as necessary to get them for all my party members not using polearms -- including the months you mentioned!

Actually the ghosts just dropped a Light Shield for me today.
Still no Light Sword though...

You can get Light Sword from the bags of Bucaneer Ghost in Bayjin at random. I got Light Sword after 20 times fight to Bucaneer Ghost. To repeat reloading saved files is very hard work for me. But this sword is too good beyond rumor.

Those Bucaneers drop nothing but Vaporizers!
12 bags and a vapo in each and every one.
Found another in the Bayjin chest and I don't
even use a gadget-guy!

I got a question about reloading. Do you have to reload 20 times in a row? or does it matter if you do 10, then leave the prog, come back the next day and do 3, 4 the next, etc.... does that have any effect on what spawns in the ghosts bags?

you have to exit the scene, to reset the counter/randomness. At least that is the way to reset the nessie treasure (and other "fixed" random treasures.

Yes. I reload 20 times. To fight ghosts,I understand that the bags are set when ghosts are killed. So I take almost Hitpoints of ghosts, but ghosts are alive, and free from area, then I save the game. I used this saved file, so each battle to ghosts are very short.
