"Travelling"

Posted by Redoz (Guest) on Apr-13-02 at 04:48 AM
I started few days ago with my party (it's the first time for me.) and i arrived at Arnika.. I play the game at "Novice" difficulty and till then it wasn't that hard. But when i left Arnika again there were all over the roads enemies... not very easy ones... i finally made it through all those bastards and reached the umpani camp.

After finishing several things there i tried to get back to Arnika. I didn't make it yet cause there are some of those highway robber guys and 2 cultists... i have no chance in fighting them cause the cultists even summon some elementals.

I just wanted to know if there is any way to avoid them and, if not, how to kill them.

(Will travelling get easier with a higher character levels or do the enemies on the streets get better when i get a level up)

Typically in CRPG's, we go out of our way to seek battles to build experience, but sometimes the roads get so filled with stuff like poison plants (dunno why, but I dislike all of Wiz8's assorted offensive vegetation in particular). You need to get the X-Ray spell and keep it going, so you can see enemies at a distance in the map mode.

Step off the road, don't run light spells at night on the roads, and be still when you are near a group. They may miss you. If you have the Chameleon Spell active, standing still does help. When I suggest stepping off the road, it's because the various monsters look for you there, not necessarily that travelling overland is a great deal better about missing monster groups.

Meanwhile, I think that the general consensus has been that the Trynton area is somewhat easier to take on than the area in between Arnika and the Umpani Base.

sometimes ..camping helps too...

on my 1st trip to Arnika... i bumped into 06 modai piecers and a spell caster (can't remember the name...but irritating coz she keeps casting fireball and terror)i was only lvl 7 - 8... can't defeat them without 04 members of the party dying... so i walked away and camped... the next morning... they were gone.

i just took a party from arnika to umpanibase camp.

on the road met 2 cultists and 11 highwaymen. the cultists
cast a minor air elemental and a lesser fire elemental!!
i too am level 7-8. RAN back towards arnika. When i got to
the road sign, the game asks if i want to go to arnika-trynton
road. yes. rested 8 hours and went back. they were all still
there just after the sign. went back and rested 24 hours.
when i went back i found the elementals and 5 modais. No
cultists or highwaymen. WHO WAS CONTROLLING THE ELEMENTALS??

whatever, killed all of them and did not see anyone else
on the way to the northern wilderness.

I also got into this situation. I ran away off the Area and came back after regaining my stamina. The funny thing about this was that only the cultists wer tossing spells at me the highwaymen and the elementals kept wandering past me totaly ignoring me as long as i was standing on the spot an just doing ranged attacks.
Well this was before applying any patches to the game and I havent tried it after patching so I don't know if it still works then.

Yeah, the roads can be a struggle at first. You can take comfort in knowing that later in the game you will see a dozen or so Highway Men (and thoses damn plants too) explode at the same time with just a mere thought in the first round.

Thx for the fast help.. I'll try to walk on the grass next time, but there is often not very much space between the street and the mountain that keeps you naer the street

Remember too, whatever you do DON'T LET THEM SURROUND YOU. Back to the wall monsters fall, out in the open start running and hopin'.
